  • Connecting two monitors with only VGA ports?

I’ve two monitors separated by a good decade or so. Main one has HDMI, VGA and DVI ports. The old monitor only has VGA.

Laptop has only an HDMI port.

    Do I need an adapter?

    Thanks

If your laptop only has one hdmi port, it’ll probably only drive one external monitor. I thought mine was the same but realised it had an mini-DisplayPort as well.

If the laptop had a USB c port then you could get a port replicator that amongst others should include a VGA port.

    Thanks all.

I think it does have a USB C port so might give that a try.

I currently have a HDMI to VGA adapter for one monitor which only has VGA input and a usb c to HDMI adapter for the other monitor.

Find something like a Dell D1000 on eBay.

USB to VGA monitor adapter for the second monitor. Don’t skimp on a cheap one, sometimes the drivers are very poor. £10-15 should probably get you a good enough one.

Or tbh best to just buy a new monitor as they really aren’t dear now, Black Friday!!
