What does it consist of?   I’ve never been to a cocktail party, yet we have a work event which ends with one and the advice is for “Cocktail attire, men are advised to wear jackets”.

What should I wear (sensible suggestions please)?

Shirt & tie, jacket of some form, or a suit.

    Black tie is too formal.

Cocktail attire is a dark grey – black smart suit. You could go dark blue, if it’s less formal. White shirt, tie and collars (not wing-tips). Moss Bros will sort you out.

Had to get black tie, informal and cocktail suits last year for a wedding in Hong Kong- I cooked.

Gentlemen wear coats. Potatoes have jackets.

My default zero cost option was Bodgy’s.  I have a Black suit, and a good quality white shirt amd shiny shoes that’ll add the Bond effect with ‘links and a Seiko Samurai to finish it of .

As its not formal i will eschew a tie.

Chef’s outfit would have been more appropriate, Shirley?

Attire for leaving a cocktail party in is another topic entirely…

    Jeans and a t-shirt unless you’re over 30.

And if it’s posh then the t-shirt might need ironing.
