As title really. My bike came set up with XT 2×11 and looking to try 1×11. Can I just stick a 32 tooth slx m7000 chainring on the front of my cranks and go or do I need to do anything with spacers/chainline etc. The slx chain ring is just £25 So I am thinking not an expensive experiment to try.

yep, pretty much all you need to do. might need to trim the chain-ring with some spacers if the chain line is particularly bad, but I doubt you’ll have too TBH.

you probably need shorter chainring bolts too. (sorry if you know that already)

    Not on a double surely?

I did exactly this with my last bike, it was as simple as swopping the chainring and taking off the surplus bits

Cheer guys. ^^mildbore did you use the chain ring bolts on the 2×11 or did you need new shorter bolts?

New chainring bolts, or rather old ones from my bolts tub. Shorter bolts needed anyway, though at a pinch you can space the bolts you have with washers

For your set up it isn’t 100% clear….according the tech docs exploded view M7000 crankset the same chain ring bolt is used for the double & single chain ring (M8x8.5mm)

But for the XT M8000 WITH XT chain rings…see here M8000 crank set it uses a LONGER (11.4mm) chain ring bolt for the XT single ring.

Not sure why – but when I changed my XT M8000 cranks from double to single ring I also got the longer bolts. They fit with the XT single ring, an Absolute black oval and now an Uberbike chain ring OK.

Maybe the SLX single rings are made differently for the chain ring bolts, countersunk ?

Anyway other poster seems sure you’ll need shorter ones ? From the Shimano documents that doesn’t appear correct !

    Thanks ^^^^
Well I guess my current 2×11 set up may have both length of bolt currently fitted? So guessing I will be covered?
The Germans say the 2x uses 8x9mm for small ring and 8×11.4mm for big ring and 1x set ups.

If I can be ar$ed I could just take my current chainring bolts off and see 😳
