Need a solution for carrying fluids on my 2018 Mega. In the past I’ve either been riding at Wind Hill, where I buy drinks at the top, or I’ve resorted to stashing drinks in the undergrowth on loops I repeatedly ride. However, I need a better solution for the Triscombe Enduro in a few weeks’ time.

I dislike hydration packs, so don’t want to go down that route. The only bottle mount on my Mega is on the underside of the downtube, which I’ve never tried, but have heard that it’s not particularly secure.

Is there any solution, like a side entry bottle that will fit somewhere on my frame (I’ve seen one solution like this, but it involved reversing the shock to gain sufficient space, which I don’t want to do)? Perhaps there’s a bottle/cage combo that will mount to my downtube and be 100% secure.

    Suggestions appreciated.

    Cheers,

I just found these on the px clearance section. May be handy.

    Usual t&c. Sorry for spam.

Have a Look at the orange 5 thread on here from a few days back as the op had the same issue and many good suggestions came up.

    I’ve a mega.

Bottle mount attached under TT but yes you need to flip the shock so the piggyback is out the way. Why don’t you want to do this?

I’ve had it like this 2 years now, no issues.

If you have plenty seatpost showing you can buy two 32mm problem solver clamps,or front mech clamps, I’ve fashioned something similar from old DMR chainguide clamps to fit a mini pump.

If it’s not a carbon frame, you can get a side entry cage zip tied onto the shock mount and down tube. You’ll only get a 500ml bottle in it though (elite do the fly 550 which fits). I’ve been using a specialized zee cage with no issues. It’s ugly but works – seem quite a few others doing similar. You can fit one on the mounts under the down tube, but all I’m saying to that is poo… I’m running a dakine hot laps holding tube, levers and co2 on the down tube by the BB, specialized mini pump/co2 on the bottle cage mounts underneath and one up EDC in the steerer. So I could run pack less, but I prefer to have a back protector and 1st aid kit…

This is roughly what I’ve done, tried those mounts, didn’t like them, used zip ties: https://m.pinkbike.com/news/staff-rides-mike-kazimers-nukeproof-mega-290.html

On my bird aeris I used a sks anywhere cage on the top tube when I raced ,  used a 500ml bottle and positioned it so the top of the bottle was a couple of mm clear of the stem . Worked fine and I didn’t ever lose a bottle . I did put cable ties over the straps for extra security.

I got downtube mounts and was suggested here to get this. https://www.fidlock-bike.com/produkte_en.html#uni_connector

It’s brilliant. Any bottle you want, or anything else like tubes etc can be kept on it. When it’s not on the bike the mounts look tidy. Nice and secure too but still easy to get off to drink.
