Cannondale Si Crank Arm removal

Morning folks,

Just waiting for a power meter to be deliver that will be put on my Cannondale Scalpel Si (2017).  It’s one of these Cannondale Si crank things.

As with everything Cannondale, you’re expected to pay a small fortune for a simple tool and wondered if anyone can confirm if the following would work…

10mm allen key to take the top cap off.

Insert rod (some people say a coin will do)

Screw in 22mm bolt into the crank arm to press against rod / coin and thus extracting the crank arm?

Any flaws in my method?

There are some you tube bits about doing it without the tool.

What I do is take out one crank bolt place and old hub axle and cone inside the chainset , the cone rests against the crank bolt that’s still attached.

The use a normal crank extraction tool. The crank tool will push on the old hub axle that’s inside the chainset.

I agree with the above

A bit of 16mm (ish) round bar the right length to push off the other side lets you use a normal crank puller

Thanks guys, just bought a cheap crank puller.  I’ve heard that a 10 cent coin (which I happen to have!) will do the same job as a metal rod.

Bought the crank puller on price match from my local Evans store 10 mins ago.  Apparently the world will end if I dont pay £25 for the correct cannondale tool….

For anyone that’s interested…. A 22mm crank puller like the Park CP-22 and a coin works a treat.

Nice when its a simple solution

Years ago it was a 5p? coin and a square taper puller for isis, how things move forward and stay the same!

Standard crank crank puller and a coin worked for me removing the drive side crank arm to swap out the spider.

I must admit I read somewhere that a 10 cents euro coin works and I just so happened to have some to hand. It did deform the coin somewhat so a 16mm rod may well have been the better choice
