I’m planning a month long trip around Europe in the trip and will mostly be wild camping, (as opposed to on campsites) and was wondering if anyone had any tips for securing the bike whilst I sleep if there’s nothing to lock it to.

Apparently these are more secure than you would think

So, no vehicle to secure your bike to?

Get one of these, attach cord via a piece of fishermans thread to bike, it cant be seen on grass, and if somebody nicks or moves bike alarm goes off also works on vehicles.

Cycle touring or transporting bike on car & camping?

When I cycle toured I usually secured bikes to a tree or right up against the tent. More problematic with a single bike: I’ve heard people use d-locks with ground anchors (the ones usually used to secure dogs on a leash), which is ok if the ground is soft. Edit: as described in post above.

When car camping with bikes: I carry 2 big 13 mm chains and lock around a tree or through the alloy wheels plus an array of cables and locks.

i had one of those but it also had spikes hammered in once screwed in which could not then be removed when the lock was used – certainly stopped an opportunist

Yeah, I do prefer a 13mm chain and padlock around a tow ball mounted bike rack it has to be said.

One thing in your favour, Europe is generally less thievey than the UK
