Hi Folks,

I have the back to work blues after a 10 day trip biking in the Pyrenees. My pal has a house there which is a great base if anybody is interested PM me and I will send link/contact details. To cheer myself up I have been thinking about the next trip…

The GF and I are speaking about taking some holiday’s later in the year in late september/early october. We were thinking of mixing mountain biking, chilling in the spa with good food and wine. Also wanted to be fairly sure of consistantly nice weather without being too warm.

From what I see when I googled this region fits the bill. Has anybody been there and can recommend bike hire, maps, gps coordinates, good trails, hotel/lodges?

Any advice would be great as I want to maximise it!

It’s frickin awesome, not just for biking, but the hiking trails are brilliant too, would be worth hiking up a few peaks while you are out there and the lemonade from the cabin on the small lake just south of lake Tahoe is home made and just amazing, I love the place, but the food, be careful because you get so much and it is really good too.

The town is funny because halfway down the main street is the border with the next state which allows gambling so that end of the street is like a mini las vegas, which is fun for a bit

my good friend in san fran suggested a road trip, we headed up to tahoe and did Toads route and then Downieville. we camped at tahoe and I can confirm its a beautiful place with some brilliant trails. It doesnt help with the accomodation but it confirms its great place to ride.

Skied there many times, love it. Generally stayed at Lakeland Village at South Lake Tahoe, a variety of lodge type places in a complex, it’s good.

If you want cheap accommodation the casinos at Stateline are perfectly acceptable.

Can’t help with anything bike specific!

All good stuff so far, sounds like a go-er..

I did a tour of California with my wife 2 years ago, Tahoe was awesome we did the flume trail, Wife was pregnant with twins so didn’t do anything to tricky. Views were amazing!

We stayed down in Carson city as was lots cheaper than hotels by the lake.

Went down to Yosemite after tahoe and the scenery there are just as good!

Did LA, santa barbra, big sur, santa cruz, san fran, Tahoe, Yosemite, death valley, vegas. Over 3 weeks, Best holiday ever!

tahoe is beautiful, never had the right bike or the chance to do any riding there but northstar is just down the road for some dh action and squaw valley is a good day out but i didn`t ride at squaw just went to the top in the cable car and chilled for the day with my kids around the pool.

If I was in that area again I’d spend most of my time in Downieville… again.
