They are very smart, yes even Truss and Dorries. Even Raab.

Not smart at doing what they are paid for but like virus, smart at thriving and multiplying.

Yep I used to call it crafty dafty, people not that smart(in the educational sense)but very very good at getting on as they were quick to adapt to situations to take advantage. A survival instinct.

(Sneaky edit but Truss an Raab are well educated. Whatever that signifys)

But still it can be damn foolish and also damn scary at the same time

The scary is where it can lead, what is 2lbs of Britishness just quantifying it is bad.

Will it be mandated in the future that you have to exhibit Britishness, mandatory Morris dancing in the schools or Fred Perry ,doc martins and a nice tidy short back and sides or bowler hats and umbrellas.

TBH I think you need a bit of National service back to get some manners in the kids.:-)

Of course this is yet another boost to the SNP because the tories equate britishness with englishness.

its is pretty hard to differentiate the two things but impossible for these dimwits in the tory party

Every time I see stuff like this i think its hysterical over reaction, and then the government does something at least as daft.

The tv doc or the Dr Martens boots, named after their inventor, Germany army doc Klaus Märtens?

Tbh I needed to put a smiley on it, for irony 🙂

Ah but you inhabit a world where freedom of movement was swapped for blue passports and the ability to sell apples in lbs and no one can tell you what eu rule prevented them from doing something , where armoured jet skis are going to intercept migrants, tunnels to Ireland and other countries are proposed by your PM.

Who knows what weird shit your gonna do next 🙂

Has anyone else who has read Speak for England stopped being surprised by parody turning to prophecy?

Wonder what Headmaster’s BoJo’s next great policy announcement will be? A renewed Comet Mk3 to compete with those horrid communists at Airbus?

I’d say it’s very easy to differentiate and easier when outside England, ‘English’ is the nationality, ‘British’ is an ideology.
I’d say there is more confusion in England in that English people, not having their own parliament or individua political presence, have identified with ‘British’ over ‘English’ for so long they have in the main lost their original national identity for ‘Britishness’.

    His latest lie

Claimed Rutte the dutch PM was going to mediate for him in his absurd quest to renegotiate the brexit agreement. Immediately slapped down by the dutch who actually told him that Johnson needed to behave pragmatically.

and the ability to sell apples in lbs

Sell them you say… there are 0lbs of apples on the supermarket shelves which is pretty much the same as there being 0kg.

TBH I suppose other than pointing people to watch Dam busters, Zulu and the Italian job I really wouldn’t have a Donald Duck over what Britishness was other than it’s on the same shelf as sovereignty.

(Only time I’ve really heard Britishness banged on about was when people were doing the racialist thing.)

I feel it’s currently a label for some nostalgic past that never truly existed ,which I’ve heard described as toxic nostalgia and I think that’s an apt description.

Yep it’s an odd situation getting exactly what you asked for then just continually blaming everyone else for it’s failings.

Never mind all that nonsense. Never mind the empty shelves and looming energy crisis, Boris will be at the White House today.

I think its linked to a traditionally blinkered/biased teaching of British history, although I suspect plenty of other nations do the same.

Sorry I can only speak with the experience of one school (in England) but despite the curriculum constraints they work within, I’ve been impressed how balanced a view the teachers have been able teach. I suspect the problems come from the media who give the less nuanced view and parents who don’t think understanding another point of view on history (or anything else) matters.

If I remember my GCSE history (a stretch, it was a while ago) I learned very little about British History. The syllabus was:

Communism in Russia from 1917 to 1941
Boom, Depression and New Deal (USA post-WW1, pre-WW2)
    Segregation & Integration (USA 1950s & 60s)
US and French involvement in Vietnam from the 50s to the fall of Saigon

I cannot remember being taught anything of substance about modern British history.

History I was taught at school was pretty poor. I only took it until 14 and it was a long time ago but a bit on prehistoric stuff ( if that is not an oxymoron) Various scots kings and queens in the medieval period and that was it. NO english medival history at all, no european history.

i would hope tho 45 years later it was a bit better

Love the headlines this morning about Biden essentially telling him he’s not a priority with regards to a Trade Deal. Just another thing to add to the long list of things that have gone from wishful thinking to reality.

I did A-level ‘British economic history’, fascinating with a good bit of Hobsbawm-type Marxism, but that syllabus no longer exists.

He’s admitted to having 6 kids.

Apparently the question was “do you have six children?” To which he answered “yes”.

The follow up question should have been “do you have seven children?” To which the answer is probably also “yes”

This was the headline yesterday as well. I suspect “we’ve” known/expected for a while now and even have a rough idea of when to really expect progress.

But admitting how far out it really is might be viewed as damaging. So we’ll just get bluster and bllx.

Sorry I can only speak with the experience of one school (in England) but despite the curriculum constraints they work within

It’s definiyely changed now, but the history I was taught – in the “O” level era, when dinosaurs were Current Affairs – and especially wider historical information you could read away from the curriculum, was still very much Empire focused, and it’s this older generation who have those Union Flag blinkers on.

He did seem to be getting a grilling from Laura on BBC News last night. My lad reckons it was the toughest grilling he’s had from anyone since the pandemic began, including Starmer, which doesn’t say much.

Two plants closed; one to re-open; gov subsidy limited to three weeks.
If wholesale gas price hasn’t fallen in three weeks time, what next?
    What a shambles so…nothing new.
