For some reason they’ve stopped making the best tyre in the world.
I don’t want a big look at me ,willy waving ,2.6 with huge spikes. I want a 2.0 that gives me loads of mud room and slices through the gloop.
    What’s out there?

Much as I love that tyre, it is/was bloody awful on anything but proper mud. Wonderful in the pit of a Chilterns winter but sketchy as you like on harder surfaces and roots.

According to the Trek website there’s a few shops with stock.

The same happened with Spesh Storm Controlls, I think I managed to buy the last set in existence some years ago.

Zippy what wheel size , I might have a spare.

In the local cotswold clag they were great , the Mary not so good , currently finding maxxis shorty is heavier but pretty good .

I’ve got some Panaracer Trailrakers you can have but they’re in 26″ flavour…

    Maxxis Beaver?

RIP for the beaver too. That’s my favourite winter XC tyre. But couldn’t find any in 29 flavour any more. Think that was pretty much the same as the Bonty XR mud.

I used to feel the same but 2.4 XR4’s are just as good in gloopy mud but a million times better on wet roots and rocks where the Muds were pretty useless.

The Trek Factory Racing Team were testing some new mud tyres so there may be a slight possibility of something on the horizon who knows.

Shorty in 2.3 is a lot smaller than it sounds.

Those mourning the loss of the beaver and XR mud get thee some Maxxis Forekasters.

Not as fast rolling on hard surfaces but like witchcraft on wet cambers.

Mud X was a great tyre in 26 size for some reason it just didn’t work in 29″ .

Good lord, I hope you are joking. Mine are mildly terrifying in summer and lethal in winter.

But in winter in The Chilterns all there is is mud. My winter tyre of choice when I lived there too and pretty light too (>600g).
