We’ve had a Combi for 4.5 years / 45k (had an original shape Scudo for 133k before it).
1.6 HDI is economical but slow as is only around 90hp (very slow for first 5000 miles whilst it loosened up). Not an issue for us as are happy to plod around at speed limits and it pulls OK at lower speeds. get the 2.0 / 6 spd box if wanting to go faster.
After about a year the front ARB bushes start creaking (goes away once subframe warms up). Dealers replace the whole ARB under warranty (which also involves dropping the subframe). Now out of warranty, a squirt of silicone spray shuts it up for a few months. If it gets bad think you can get replacement bushes on ebay rather than do the whole bar.
There is a tinny heat shield over the turbo and manifold. It isn’t well supported so is common for this to crack (and get replaced on warranty). Out of warranty I added an extra little bracket and it has been fine since.
Otherwise it has been great (been 3 x Alps and 1 x Scandinavia with it). Tailgate, seats etc very useful on the Combi e.g. room for 6 people and 6 bikes with wheels out (Combi version also gets car speed limits on A roads / dual Carriageways).
If money is an issue then also consider a 96 or 97 ish / facelifted late version of the old model – that 2.0 HDI Dispatch / Expert / Scudo had a very good reputation.
