Has anyone got good or bad experiences of bike trackers without subscription?
I saw a Knog yesterday that other than mounting to a bottle cage seems ideal….

I don’t do ANY subscriptions at all so it needs to be a one off payment.

You know that’s an AirTag right? (with handy extra buttons & tamper alarm) Do you have an iPhone? Useless to you otherwise.
Actually looks like a decent product though, not seen that before, ta! 😃

The bloke showed me yesterday said it doesn’t alert the thief like Airtag does.

Personally I can’t see the point of the bottle cage mounted trackers as everyone knows what they are. So at best are a deterrent, in which case you can just put an empty box on there….

I’d personally fit a hidden version.

he’s bullshitting you then. It’s not like an AirTag, it is an AirTag. Exactly the same tech/network/app etc. Apple aren’t going to let this bypass their anti-stalker system.

with this though it also provides a tamper-alarm. But yeah probably more useful for when you’ve stopped at a cafe or something than e.g. when a bike is nicked out of your shed (unless it’s REALLY loud lol)

I’ve got the Knog Scout on my bike. I like it. It’s hard to say if it has prevented anything happening but I like the peace of mind when I’m in a cafe, queuing to register or otherwise away for a few minutes.

The motion sensor/alarm seems to work well. It’s very sensitive – which can cause problems if you prop it against a camper van or something which may move a bit. It’s good to know the bike will make some noise if someone moves it. It’s not ear-splitting loud but loud enough you’ll hear it from a few metres away or it’ll attract attention at an event.

Other use I’ve found is when I leave my bike locked in the car (sometimes do this overnight at events) – you can check the bike is where you left it in the morning without getting out of bed. Nice reassurance.

If they get away back to their chop-shop or carry security bits then sure they can get them off… but meanwhile its setting the alarm off.

As most of my bikes don’t have bottle cages I was thinking of putting them inside the frame anyway.

Bollox… it did seem too good to be true at the price.

I got three of these, but have had a pretty poor experience.  Two of the three have been replaced already, and now all three are going back again.  They ‘brick’ themselves frequently – especially after a firmware update is forced on them.  I’ve lost count of the number of helpful emails I’ve had with their support team in Australia, but as soon as I think I’ve got one working, it throws a wobbly.  One just started randomly alarming whilst one of my boys was out riding with his pals – for example.  Another won’t pair/setup at all.  The third was working fine, until I had to update firmware and now it’s toast – can connect to it, but can’t arm it or track it.

If you do buy one, ideally get it from your LBS and keep the receipt.
