Looking for a bike computer don’t wanna spend anymore than £50. Must have gps so I can upload my travels / millage to Strava but apart from that that’s all I want. Don’t want to use an old phone.

Check out FB marketplace for a used Garmin Edge 520 or even a 510.

I have a 510 and it does pretty much everything I need and more. Great battery life and easy to set-up with fancier stuff should you want in future. You’d get one very cheap now I would bet…coupled on marketplace now for £50 after a check.

I do wish it had more detailed basemap navigation though as it only has breadcrumb trail. Fine for on roads, but can be tricky with complex mountain paths or faint paths etc. But if you don’t necessarily want nav then it’s a nice bonus to have anything. Think the 520 and upwards has proper maps.

Have at look for a XOSS. G+. They’re about £25 and do the basics well but have no mapping and upload can be a bit slow.

I’d be inclined to go with either iGPSport or Coospo from Amazon.

Was chuffed to get a new Lezyne Super Pro from CRC last year for ~£27 (rrp ~£115), after misplacing my Lezyne Mega XL on train in Sept ’22. If I had been less indecisive, I could have got a new Mega XL for ~£36 the day before from CRC, but I wanted to see if bike GPS computers had moved on since its release around ’18.

Used Edge 520 or Edge 130. You probably won’t get a used 130 Plus.

The Edge 130 Plus I just bought to replace my ailing 520 is excellent, Bigger numbers, clearer B&W display for easier reading, smaller than the 520, long battery life. Has BT phone connection and talks to all my sensors. Autolap on 5 miles only, which means it’s good for TT’s but not velodrome. I followed a 100 mile breadcrumb road trail with few issues on Sunday. Recommended.

EDIT: Should add that I found that Climb Pro was very good when following a course which is on the 130 Plus. The photo below is taken in sunlight with no backlight. It’s a bit of a nobrainer as to why I prefer the 130 Plus, not top mention the battery was still reading about 30% after six hours. A used 520 like mine is tired after 2-3 hours! I always loved the 500, and this is its successor (no heart rate plot though 🙁 )

What’s wrong with an old Edge 200?

Coospo for 40 quid from Amazon. Works well.

Must admit a friend of mine uses a cospo (cospoo) as I call it and for the money he recons it’s quite good.

How long is your longest ride likely to be?
How happy are you are you to charge devices regularly?

FWIW I’m still hanging onto my Edge 25 it’s over a decade old but the battery will still do a solid 4 hours plus.
They’re about as basic as it gets but do have Ant+ (for when you inevitably buy a HR strap) and will connect via Bluetooth for easy upload through your phone, where an old edge 200 requires cable faff and a PC. Failing that a used edge 130 is probably a newer equivalent device that could be scored 2nd hand

if it’s just for mileage loging and you’re not going to be staring at data during a ride then a garmin watch (forerunner XX, Vivoactive 3 or 4 or similar) has the major benefit that it’s harder to forget a thing already strapped to your wrist…

I’d get on that there eBay and just browse the devices going on there in your price range, then check DC rainmaker reviews to see the good and bad points of anything you might bid on.

You will inevitably end up buying a posher device eventually as whatever you get ages and battery life reduces.

I paid £75 for a Super-pro last year and I’m still pretty impressed with it for the money, like you I keep looking out for a Mega XL as I fancy trying the silly big battery life and screen…

My Edge 200 still going strong.  Great for recording rides and navigation for riding.

You may get a secondhand one cheap.

My battery still lasts 15 odd hours and it must be over 15 years old.

My Edge 200 is the same, but has no ANT+ connections. I used it as a backup and for route following until I bought the 130 Plus (mainly for TTs where I need 12h battery life AND ANT+ in a small package). The 130 is also so much faster, if that matters. Plug and download only, rather than BT transfer. They are about the same size.

I have an old Edge 520 that I haven’t used in years. Happy to sell for cheap if someone wants it, but would need to charge it and try it out first I guess – battery might feasibly not love having sat uncharged for years.

I’ve got an Edge 500. It was last charged and used about December 2023.

I’d be happy to send it to you for free if you cover the postage :o)
