Bike bag packing

I’m off on a trip soon and think I’ll have a challenge with packing my new DH bike. I’ve had an Evoc bike bag for years and was used to taking the shock off my old DH bike to squeeze it into the bag.

My new DH frame is longer, and given its a relatively high pivot, I think that means it extends if you compress the shock. Therefore I think my only option will be to let most of the air out of the forks to get the bike to fit.

Does anyone know if that will be ok please? Fork is a BOS Idylle 39 at 200 odd psi, I was thinking I could run it at 60 psi in the bike bag

What is your concern?

I was just thinking if I set the forks at 60 psi or lower, it probably means they will compress under the weight of the bike quite a bit, ie the forks may have 60% sag. And I was wondering if running the forks at 60% sag would in any way damage them during transit.

It will be absolutely fine

The easiest way to get my large 29er in my Evoc bag is to fully compress the forks. I take all the air out and use a toe strap to keep them compressed. Never been an issue, Rockshox Pike or Lyrik FWIW.

I’d eager that at some point during manufacture and assembly, they are at 0psi

I’m not familiar with the specific fork but you can let all the air out or even if they have a negative air spring that self equalises push the fork down past the equalisation port and then let air out they will stay compressed until you pump them up again.

Or use a luggage strap to pull the forks down to your desired length.

OP it’ll be fine. You have to take all the air out when you do a lowers service. Just make sure to reinflate it incrementally by quarters and cycle it through its travel at each stage.
