I bought a Petzl XP before buying a Gamma, but almost always use the Gamma now. The Petzl stays tucked away in my Camelback as an emergency light. One small advantage the Petzl does have over the Gamma is the fact that the battery compartment is situated at the front of the torch and not at the back of your head. This makes reading a book whilst reclined in ones bivvy/tent a bit more comfortable. All told though the Gamma is miles better & brighter than the Petzl and costs a third of the price. I bought a load as Xmas pressies which were all very well received. Alpkit kick ass.

sold my s/h petzl on eBay for 75% of RRP (about £25) having bought the Gamma which is a far superior headtorch for half the price.

Also been living in the alpkit down gilet for the last month in France. Great bit of kit, very comfy, not quite as warm as my NF but 2.3 of the bulk and weight so not surprising. Looses a few feathers through the seams a week, but nothing tragic.

I’ve got the one with sleeves, dont know what its called but its very warm. Always great service from Alpkit. I’ll be buying one of their sleeping bags in the spring.

i just picked up a couple of airic mats and a hunka bag from the post office this morning. great stuff; the airics appear to be as good as a thermarest for less than half the price…

That’s good to know as I am waiting on delivery of their £30 bivvy.

Yeah will do – I bought what was billed as an ex army bivvy bag off Ebay, and although it does seem to be ex army, it seems more like a sleeping bag rather than anything that’s water proof. I was a bit cheesed off when I bought it so hopefully this protective layer will sort me out!

Ex-army? Did it have a big long zip which total covers you? 😉

Well it was green and someone’s surname was written on the army looking stuff bag.

Anyone got one of their sleeping bags? I’m torn between the 400 and the 600 Skyehigh. I am a bit of a gayer and will only camp from spring to autumn; will the 600 be too hot or can you unzip from the foot-end up wards?

sounds like you bought a bivvy bag simon – not an actually bivvy / tent

if you’re using it for biking overnight it should be fine. it’s goretex and they’re big enough to get a squaddie in with boots on and a bergan

The Alpkit Bivvi bags are top notch, I had a Goretex Bivvi Bag but got one of these for an Alpine climbing trip because they’re lighter and take up less room, just as good as the Goretex in my view especially being lighter, less bulk and 1/4 of the price.

Gamma here as well. Arrived in a couple of days with a little thank you note as well. Definately recommended.
