So, our 2005 2.0HDI Berlingo had had a slow coolant leak for over a year, its getting worse, i popped the bonnet, removed the engine cover and i think i’ve found the cause. It appears that the engine cover has been rubbing against a coolant pipe that eventually heads off to the expansion tank. I guess that i just need to replace the pipe (quickly), add some coolant, and all will be well again.

But, i don’t know what the particular pipe is called in order to buy one, can anyone ID it for me?

Also, should i really keep that big plastic engine cover in place (secured by cable ties) – what does it actually do?

    Cheers 👍

get a silicon pipe and cut it/fit it

Or go to a dealer / parts place and point at it. There are no special clips so replace with any bit of coolant hose should be fine.
I’d keep the engine cover but remove some material to eliminate the foil condition.

I never had an engine cover on mine – top or bottom

Bottom hose. A pair of water pump pliers will deal with the clamps.
