I wonder if I am losing touch with reality, a cafe just tried to charge me £4.00 for a bacon sandwich and seemed surprised that I declined. What does one cost in your part of the world?
2.50 to 4.00. The van on the industial eastate I work on is 3.50 or maybe 4.00 but it is a big sandwich with lots of bacon. The worst Iahd was at a farm sale last year, 3.50 or more, pre cooked bacon under a hot plate, cheap thin sliced bread.
Did the establishment selling it you use the word ‘Artisan’ to describe any of the contents. Thats usually the reason used to double the price of something.
Builders merchants behind our office has Nico’s Emporium of Processed Pork Products. Decent sized roll with 3-4 proper rashers is £2.00. Another 40p more for an egg. 60p to add 3 slices of rather fine black pudding.
Sometimes I wonder if Binners and I were separated at birth.
I’ve been trying to stay off them but I think vans in Edinburgh are selling for about £2. Last week working in Surrey at one of the RideLondon watering spots a local butcher was selling “a” sausage on a roll for £2.50 which we thought a bit tight, it looked tight, a single sausage in a big white bap.
£3.50 in our restaurant upstairs for a huge baguette filled with sliced pig and 2 eggs. Same price for the sausage equivalent. Both are fan-****ing-tastic.
Kens Burger Van on the A38 just south of Gloucester. Enormous french stick, 6 rashers of bacon, 4 fried eggs – £3.50. Free tea or coffee while he makes it too.
I paid three quid for two pale soggy slices of middle on a small bap. Totterdown Farm RIAT viewing field. Even the guys serving it up looked depressed, it was like a silent, solemn pigs funeral where the pig was done no credit whatsoever. An insult even.
I’ve paid four quid tops for thick cut proper bread and local home-cured. Max I’d wish to pay for cheapo stuff is 2.50 if very hungry although would prefer to give it a miss tbh.
Slightly OT.
I once went in a cafe and asked for an egg and bacon sandish.
Thin white bread was buttered.
Pre cooked bacon was then microwaved.
Then …………a precooked fried egg was produced that went in the microwave.
The only positive from this traumatic experience was that the cafe owner wasn’t English.
No Englishmen would EVER commit such a crime.
Egg, Sausage and Bacon in a roll = £2.80. Eat-In, West London.
If you don’t want any of those three fillings you can leave it out and add bit extra of what’s left for the same price.
I wouldn’t mind paying £4 if it was a nice place and i was eating in, however 2 rasher of bacon in a sandwich would be a deal breaker that is too little meat to make up a proper sandwich, there would be gaps all over the place.
Never eat them meself but every Thursday morning we have a delivery at work two rounds of white bread something that may or may not be bacon and something possibly related to a sausage in a white paper bag saturated in grease £1.50 and it’s yours (febrile West Midlands hell pit)
The local bakers will do you 3 rashers and an egg on a freshly baked white roll for £2.10. I have to drive a different way to work so I don’t drive past it. 😀
The van near to my work does a belly buster for £3.50 – 4 bacon, 2 sausages, 2 slices of black pudding and 2 eggs. I’m suprised I can still fit through the door!
I have seriously got to start thinking about relocating. My area was on that TV show with the large annoying woman and the foppish bloke about buying houses and now it’s becoming gentrified, I have to drive a fair way to get a decent value fry up these days.
Good to know that some people can still enjoy the traditional and cheap breakfast roll.
