Is it, well, a bit crap?

It’s been palsticy from day 1.

But a year / couple of thousand miles of riding and I just cannot seem to get the (now wobbly) rear mech to shift well. New cables. Lots of care setting up. Frame&hanger straight.

It just seems to have a ‘wandering shift’. I can’t tell how much is down to a wobbly top pivot on mech.

    Just me?

What are options to replace it with – GRX or Sword? I guess it’s new shifters too?

    Plastic tat.

Replace with shimano and wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.

I don’t mind double tap, but I have force on my road bike so not cheap plasticky stuff. Apex is pretty low end isn’t it?

I found the Apex rear mech pretty awful.

The shifter (mine is 1x) paired with a Rival rear mech though has been fine – I prefer this set up to my Ultegra shifters …

I like the pairing so much that I’ve not fitted the Force shifters I’ve had for over a year.

because, imo, brake levers that can only pivot on one axis are far better.

OTOH, Apex is definitely a bit crap. Had mine for years now and it’s very rarely had every gear working as it should.

I’ve got Apex on my road bike which doesn’t get ridden a great deal, but it seems fine.
I never have to tweak the shifting and it just kinda does it’s thing.
It’s probably 10 years or more old, so maybe the newer versions aren’t as robust?

I have Apex 1x on my gravel bike. Works fine.

I’ve covered 1000’s of km on my Apex equipped gravel bike in the 3+ years I’ve owned it and it still works perfectly.

Change the mech to a Force or Rival one, they actually have metal parts in them unlike Apex.

I’ve got Apex 1x on a gravel/commuter bike and it works fine with minimal maintenance. The chain didn’t last long when it was put away wet but since replacing it with a higher level one everything has been fine.
