Anyone watching the Minnaar doc on Eurosport?

Jings! He tore the Santa Cruz team a new one. Was timely as I watched the Cathro preview of this year’s DH season earlier and he said Santa Cruz actually gave him the boot, which was not what was suggested at the time but given what I’ve just seen in the documentary, he absolutely fell out with them after the world champs incident!

Yes. It’s excellent. Aside from the SC fallout it’s a fantastic documentary

Cos I’m oldskool 🙂 Got a Sky+ box and like to have progs sat on it ready to watch at any time. If I on demand I have to sit and wait for it to download.

If you enjoy watching GM whinge then fill yer boots. He’s certainly as good at pointing the finger as he is at racing.

Hopefully when he hangs up his SPDs we’ll get a proper retrospective of his amazing career with loads of archive footage and interviews.

He didn’t race Leogang, did he?

Promising training at Ft William round then bust his shoulder and has been struggling since. Made it to semi’s in Leogang but not finals. This years schedule doesn’t leave much recovery time between rounds.

He definitely does come across as a bit whiney but in his defence he had more mechanicals last year than the previous 2 or 3 seasons combined. Also if your mechanic is not on the ball before a champs race run then Greg is quite right to demand a different mechanic, its their job to be ready for changing conditions, the rider shouldn’t have to even think about it. I think the relationship between him and SC was getting more and more strained as the season went on and SC called it quits  – don’t think Greg was as blindsided as he made out.

Watched the doc on YouTube this morning. I quite enjoyed it in fairness.

I can understand his frustration with SC, in his head he was the big star, but his results weren’t measuring up to his own expectations or that of a team that didn’t seem to be 100% behind him. Again I can understand that he would have liked to go out with a bang, but time wasn’t on his side in reality. Mechanicals and injuries don’t have a personal grudge, sometimes it just happens.

I think his position in Norco Racing will give him the release that he needs as a racer, but his experience and ability to run a successful racing team will show what a class act he is, and has been, for far longer than he anyone had a right to be. He can bow out as a proper legend, one which I’ve enjoyed watching over 2 decades and still impressed me with his talents.

Mechanicals and injuries don’t have a personal grudge, sometimes it just happens.

He does come across as demanding but a mechanic not being prepared for rain at Ft William just shouldn’t happen. Stressing about having a bike ready minutes before a world champs run is never going to end well.
