Our three and a half year old Focus C Max has just been fitted with a new power steering pump. The steering now feels heavier than it used to. Is this normal? Will it get better as it settles into regular use?

Any advice appreciated. Cheers.

Have you checked the fluid level in case it's dropped with initial use?

Yeah. It's still up within the limits on the reservoir.

Just turn it lock to lock on Fords to bleed the air-check your manual or user guide.

Also if it is speed sensitive then your old PS pump could have been over pressured giving too much aid.

I seemed to recall that whilst I was playing with the buttons on the wife's C-Max when we bought it, you could you could change the level of assistance. Just checked it, and there are three settings for the power steering - sport, standard and comfort. Maybe they sawpped to a different setting?

Thanks for the input. I'll try lock to lock.

As far as i'm aware it only has one setting for the PS but i'll check the manual just in case.

best thing to do is ask whomever fit the new pump.
