I’m getting strangely drawn in to Doc Martin on Wednesday nights.

Mrs BigJohn started watching it a couple of years ago and I thought it was just another piece of ITV fluff. Maybe because she sees a bit too much of me in the Clunes character. But it’s really rather heartwarming.

Tonight a couple of patients in the waiting room were Anita Bush and Teresa Green. I’m going to keep an ear out for any more of these risqué names.

A publican who has run pubs in Stafford and Derby has the unfortunate name of Roger Myring.

What were his parents thinking? He should have been called Phil, surely.

I worked with a Mike Hunt once. His side kick was called Tony Havercroft.

I was on a plant shutdown and needed to get hold of them via a walkie-talkie, but wasn’t going to say Mike Hunt… so, I asked for Tony Hovercraft.

Hoots of laughter over the radio network.

There’s a sign company near here called Owen Kerr, which to me sounds like Wayne Kerr but shouted from a passing bus.
