Can’t seem to get to grips with the RP23 on my Scratch Air 9.
Am i mad for considering a CCDB with a TI spring to replace it?

I realise there is a weight penalty but would it even fit?

    Mad no, cash happy? Maybe.
Lot of other choices.. get the RP23 tuned to your bike/you, or one of the many many cheaper competent coil shocks.
Though is getting a CCDB a bad thing? Nope just beware they take some fine tuning to get the best out of them.

So it may not be a case of fit and forget, with everything being suddenly rosy.

only mad if you can’t afford it.

Scratch looks a fun bike, I’d def be wanting a coil on one if it was mine (prob not a DB for me tho).

Well, it would be a considerable hit. That said, I spent a lot on the bike and really want it to be my ideal bike really.

How much would i expect to pay for getting the RP23 tuned? Is this something most bike shops offer? I presume this is something more than just tweaking the pressure etc?

What exactly are you not getting on with? Maybe some of the collective wisdom here can help you sort it out..

I can offer you a tiny missive – mine, and a mates, air shocks blew through their travel easily, you set the sag right and it feels ok for the first 40-50% of travel and then just goes all squidgy on big hits. Then you whack the pressure up to deal with the big hits and its way too hard for smaller bumps etc..He is shall we say “big boned and I’m a bit of carthorse too. He got a smaller aircan for his rp23, and I just filled the aircan in mine with cut up tommy tippe cups to reduce the air volume until it felt right. Increased compression ratio changes the way the pressure ramps up as it gets to 75-100% travel.

I prefer to use a specialist suspension tuner rather than you local shop. It may have to be Mojo to keep the warrenty(?), though TF Tuned, Loco, J-Tech will all be able to do something for you. Normally they do it on top of a service, so go check out there websites for more info/options

Fox air shocks can be tuned by Loco.

It just doesn’t feel active enough, I can’t seem to get the rebound right and it’s always either too hard or too soft. If I try set it up using the SAG as a guide then it’s always way too high on the pressure.

I’m not slim but i’m not huge either, about 85kg’s plus gear so doubt i’m out of the range for the shock. If i send it away to these specialists do they take stuff like this into account?

Yes, they’ll ask your weight, bike, type of riding and more and take all this into account when tuning. Give any of them a ring and ask… I’ve been in contact with all of those I listed, at one time and another, and they’re all very helpful.

Thanks guys, I’ll give them a shout.

I had pretty much the exact same issue on a vf2.

I slapped on a DHX4 which I felt improved it substantially.

If you’re minted then there’s always the BOS vip’r to consider as it seems to get favourable reviews. I think they come ‘tuned’ based on bike & rider which I assume is why they are so expensive…
