Being a complete construction luddite I have no idea if timber framed houses are good or bad. I know they are popular abroad, but is there anything I should know about them, or should I run away and buy some good old fashioned bricks and mortar?

There’s nothing wrong with timber framed houses, of course there are plenty of people who say there is.

Are you getting a mortgage on it ? What does the lender say ?

It will probably be a timber frame, then a skin of blockwork around it, and rendered. It’s probably the most common type of build in Scotland, and I build, and still live in one on the wet and windy Isle of Man. Should be very energy efficient, and less resistant to internal cracking. If bank survey ok, go for it.
