  • Advice – Dura Ace/Ultegra XTR MTB setup integration?

I’m thinking of running a Dura Ace 10spd rear mech, Ultegra front with XTR shifters.
Has anyone done the same or similar?
Is it a daft idea and more importantly will it work?
The only stumbling block i can think of is the cassette.
Years ago i ran a Ultegra rear with no dramas… so this should be ok right?

    Cheers all in advance

Road 10 speed and MTB 10 speed use different cable pulls so it won’t work.

What are you trying to build? A flat bar road bike (or hybrid as someone will no doubt point out)?

go 9 speed for ease of integration.

Building an XC flyer and want something a bit different. I’ve the parts in the man cave.
    So would 10spd not work?
The 9spd setup I’ve used before worked flawlessly.

Bodging cheap stuff fair enough…but XTR/Dura Ace?

I have a mtb with an OLD xtr mech (was possibly even a 8sp when it was sold) using ultegra flat bar shifters and it does 10sp pretty much perfectly

Try it, if you’ve already got the bits

Your mix works because 10s road and all 5-9 speed mechs are compatible.

Try it, if you’ve already got the bits

If you want to waste your time.

😳 seems I misread the OP – 10sp mtb shifter is yer problem there, compared to me. Sorry, saw ultegra front and thought you had a shifter like mine

as ^they said – don’t try it, it won’t work
