I have to take issue with
picking on any minute mistake or ambiguous comment
Seeing as how this is not a face-to-face way of interacting with others, I do think you have to ensure you are precise in what you type (unless, of course, you are being deliberately ambiguous). Otherwise your words are liable to be misunderstood.
Unfortunately for people who don’t like being corrected, grammar can also be part of this as it changes the meaning of what is written. Often, it is obvious that it is a mistake, but sometimes it is not.
An example. People who actually write ‘should of’ instead of ‘should have’, ought to be corrected. If they wrote this in a personal statement, say, for a job interview, then they may well have their application binned.
The teacher of my manager’s eight year old son wrote ‘should of’ on one of his pieces of work when meaning ‘should have’. The eight year old spotted this (as an eight year old should). The net effect is a slightly diminished authority on the part of the teacher.
Anyway, if that is insufferable, then I think the issue lies with the person who finds it so (flounce).
