  • 15mm Through axle to 12mm through axle adapter..?

Just thinking that such an adapter would make wheel choice much easier for a new bike that has 12mm through axles both ends… can’t seem to find one.

Plenty of 29er wheelsets out there that are 12mm rear and 15mm front, but a 700c wheelset that is 12mm both ends seem to be rare.

    Any suggestions?

What bike is it? 12 mm front is really a road disc standard, I’ve not heard of any MTBs using it.

. I know most DT Swiss 350 and 240 hubs can be adapted to take100 x 12 mm, their road disc wheels now come with 12 and 15 mm front adaptors In the box

Finding complete MTB wheels that come ready for 12 mm may be harder though.

It’s a new Specialized Sequoia; the off-road touring wheels that come with it are bombproof and overkill for the majority of my needs so considering alternatives. I’ve used a q/r 29er wheelset on a cx bike before so thinking along the same lines.

Seems to be only Fulcrum and DT Swiss that offer one wheelset each.

Ever noticed that road rims are generally no lighter than equivalent 29″ MTB rims? It’s because 29er wheels are designed for low (sub 50) psi tyres, and proper road rims are reinforced to handle the considerable extra load placed on the rim when running a tyre at 100psi.

If you’re looking to run road tyres at more than that I’d nudge you towards proper road disc wheels. Especially now that modern ones have got significantly wider.

I’m sure some clever dick will be along any moment to say they’ve run 29er MTB rims on 28c tyres at a bazillion PSI for years with no problems but that will be down to luck, not judgement.

Yeah, I was aware of that – I wouldn’t be running road tyres at anything close to road tyre pressures; ‘gravel’ tyres at 50psi or so.

But even the DT Swiss wheels have a 15mm at the front!

Howdy. This is a part we make, it works great!

Compatible with all 12mm x 100mm forks. Compatible with most 15mm x 100mm hubs; please note that the critical hub dimension is the OD of the end cap, which must be 20mm or smaller. Some newer ‘convertible’ hubs have larger OD 15mm end caps that will not work without being modified, but in such cases our adapter is not needed, simply swap to 12mm end caps.
