Hi, I have an unbuilt hardtail waiting to be put together. I bought some SLX 11 speed parts for it, including the SLX cranks with Shimano’s asymmetric bolt pattern. However, I have the opportunity to move over a 10 speed groupset instead (XT with a RAD cage, new 10 speed cassette and chain and an XT shifter). However, I want to keep the Shimano cranks on this hardtail build.

Would I be ok to move over the 10 speed XT stuff across to this bike in place of the 11 speed? I don’t see any issue (as apparently the 11 speed and 10 speed chains have the same internal width), but my 11 speed SLX crank and chainring would be running with 10 speed rear mech, chain and cassette. 11 speed stuff can be used better on my other bike – it will have slightly more range.

Chainrings don’t care. 9,10,11 all fine. Probably 12 as well?
