Nice idea, but unless I've missed something, does it not rely on a load of people in the same geographical area all wanting eg. an 11-32 cassette?
Andy
Don't know, but it's got to be worth a punt. I think it's either going to be places putting out old stuff they don't want or a chance to stock up on useful kit like 11 34 xt cassettes. In terms of location, isn't that down to whether or not postage is included?

Perhaps, but I thought the point of bulk buying as a group was that the vendor would save by not having to break up the wholesale pack and package each item individually?
Andy
Or the retailer can buy in bulk making a saving while confident they have confirmed sales so a quick cash turn around rather than tying themselves into particular lines of stock. Similar to the group buys that happen through here sometimes.
WTF are you on about?
Yeah, what's this?

Andy
Oh, cycling gear. 😐
thought it might be, y'know, bags, ice cream, crisps, something nice.
So, anyone actually made use of it yet?
Watching some shorts. So far a whole pound cheaper than CRC, which is frankly a bit underwhelming.
Andy
11-32 cassette £18 chain reaction (not VIP I am too special for that)
most other stuff google products will find at the price someone is going to let it go for, anything popular is too popular to have to discount much.
Oh well, it was a nice idea but I guess it's not going to happen then.
Yeah, quite - most stuff seems to be similar prices or cheaper with a bit of a google search.
You'd think that retailers would bother to do the same search before offering a price.
Oh well, it was a nice idea but I guess it's not going to happen then.
It is a nice idea; just don't think on current evidence it's going to build up the critical mass to translate into meaningful discounts.
Andy
I got some hope hoops from the "stw" group buy that was organised by a guy in scotland - seem to remember it was a little bit cloak & dagger, maybe to stop the shop getting into trouble (& so not naming names here)
that was bloody good value
To be fair it's early days did they not only launch the website last week? I registered as I was curious and it seems to be taking off a bit but like others said I'm not convinced it's cheaper yet (at least for those of us savvy enough to price heck) but maybe give it time?
Website seems pretty well set up but I've already marked the emails they send as spam, too many for my liking
The wife has signed up to Groupon which is similar to this but I think the big difference is that the normal world works on bigger mark ups that the cycle industry and therefore they can organise more impressive sounding deals. Plus there are more people willing to take up the offers.
