Apologies for another Furlough thread.

I managed to avoid Furlough all year but had to use annual leave for two months of three day weeks. Remaining AL was for two weeks over Xmas. Now being furloughed for the two weeks of AL and not allowed to carry over any AL.

Is this normal for when you are Furloughed? I'm aware I've been fortunate to be working but slightly annoyed that my only non extended weekend this year will not be from days owed 🙂

Seems perfectly reasonable to me provided they don't dock your pay to 80% while you're on annual leave.

Suspect this is not legit. You accrue annual leave on furlough so I'd assume you can't be put on furlough instead using your accrued AL without being able to carry the AL over. Also feels quite 'sharp' use of the system by your employer. Furlough is for when there is no work for you to do because of covid - as you were not due to do any work(because you were on AL), claiming XX% of your wages (I forget the current numbers) back from the government feels rather wrong.

But you still have a job and the business is still going - so still mostly happy days.

Coming up to one of the traditional ends of year dates for annual leave I'd assume a few firms are in this position....

When I was furloughed earlier in the year, I was paid my accrued holiday on top of the furlough money. They did this as they didn't want a large number of staff all coming back from furlough and then having 4 weeks holiday to book off once the work had picked up again.
I would think that your employer would either have to allow you to carry it over or pay you the holiday.

Submit a leave request for the dates. You can take leave whilst on furlough and should be at full pay whilst doing so.

How much leave have you taken?

You accrue annual leave on furlough

we were told that the leave you accrued while furloughed had to be taken while furloughed (and that that leave would be at 80% pay). we all accepted that as fair, especially as there was a total of 2 employees that worked pretty much throughout.
Apart from the mandatory christmas period I havent taken any since september and dont plan on taking any until may. We'll see how this pans out when they realise I will be having a lot of the summer off (my leave year runs oct-sept)

You should not place employees on furlough just because:

* they are going to be on paid leave
* you usually do less business over the festive period

How much leave have you taken? the Between June and August all the other AL was used.

Booked 7 days from the 21st, all approved in summer. We have a change freeze over xmas on the site I cover normally have the AL but still cover when needed. Every cloud though, wont need to curse every time the phone rings 🙂

I had to digitally sign a form, now signed I cant access it as it says "already signed"

But in the text we were encouraged to book Al in the Furlough period but cant carry over any unused leave.

they are going to be on paid leave

I work for a FTSE100 company and have been furloughed over annual leave but have been told I won't receive a pay deduction. Would have hoped they've had some lawyers and accountants look over the rules before deciding to do this.

The operative words are "just because", I think.

Same here. This will be my first time on furlough. Had a week of leave to take plus usual bank holiday so I'm furloughed for 2 weeks. Think it's morally wrong but I'm not going to complain mainly as there's every chance I may need to be furloughed in the new year due to work drying up. And think there's a fear that if you aren't registered that you may not get on to the scheme if criteria changes next month.

There is a load of dodgy shoot going on with many employers at the moment. Folk are just having to suck it up unless you've got a union.
