Anyone got one?
If playing online is not what I want it for is the 4GB memory enough?
(thinking of chopping in my old one tomorrow)

It looks like it's the arcade replacement so I'd say no, you don't want that version. You won't be able to load any games onto it which if it's like the old 360 means that it'll be noisey as hell. Just my opinion but I'd always want one with a large amount of memory.

If you aren't interested in online games at all, it'll be fine.

Even if you're not playing online though, there's acres of free demos and trails to be had, and it'll fill instantly.

Personally, I'd say to get the bigger one.

Get the bigger HDD version. There are tons of excellent games on XBox Live Arcade which you won't want to keep re-downloading all the time, not to mention being able to install full games to the hard drive to get the thing running more quietly. Add on DLC, patches and the like and you'll really be glad you got it. My current one has a 20Gb HDD and it's a PITA trying to fit everything on, 4Gb would be hopeless.

Yeah, my 20GB hard drive is around half full. Some of the big games download a lot. However, if you're short of cash but think you can stretch to a hard drive in a few months, the 4GB device might be the way to go.

On ps3 you can swap the hdd easily in 5 minutes. Is this not possible on xbox?

Yeah, you can swap the HDD, but it's more expensive to buy them separately.

It takes 5 seconds on the xbox but it does cost more if you don't buy at the start.

Mine was the Arcade Version. I picked up a 120gb drive from Ebay for about £30.

I'm not trying to start a ps3 vs xbox fight, but it seems pretty poor to be expectecd to buy a xbox specific hdd for massively inflated prices or resort to mods which will probably get you banned from xbox live.

Here is the ToS

PS3 manual tells you how to put any old laptop drive in a PS3.

4GB isn't enough for me - I like my games installed and playing off the hard drive to reduce the noise.

I thought you could now plug in external usb memory sticks and install games to these BUT NO (game installs not allowed)-.

dont forget that you can use memory sticks plugged into the USB slot. Limited to 16GB per slot, 32Gb would be plenty.

isn't that still limited by the 16GB per slot though? Or is there a way around it?

Mine can see all 320gb of my NAS Media Drive. Not sure if it will save games to it but it plays films/music etc.

Why can't the hard drive just be swapped? A 500GB hard drive is only about 28 quid these days from aria

It's a funny format and encrypted. There's probably hacks for it, but it's non-trivial.

My current xbox had the ring of death and was repaired with the ring of death special warranty, it has resorted recently to shutting down again due to the r o d, that's the main reason for swappage,

I know you can save game content to your external drives now, so I imagine the games can be as well

I have removed all game saves since putting post on, 43 different game saves used not a lot of my existing 20HD, I Had also loaded music and photos so thinking about 43 games played over last 3 or 4 hrs has not filled up this disc space and also old saves can be deleted then 4gig will suffice. Thanks all.
