... any advice?
Who is good to use? How much should I pay?
I'm off to Africa as VSO Volunteer, and am putting my affairs in order, so I need something not too pricey. Any will would be very straightforward- I'm single, have no dependants. I just want to leave my flat to my parents, and my stuff to one of my close friends to distribute amongst the rest of my friends.
Cheers STW massive!

Just speak to your local solicitor, see how much they cost, not worth doing yourself as if the worst comes to the worst and you've done something wrong then it's a pain to get sorted out.
Just tried that Akira- was met with looks of suprise at needing to get it done in the next week (I leave on the 31st) and quoted "it starts at £100".
Have a look here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/health/free-cheap-wills
I will admit it's not cheap, hmmm usually takes a bit longer than a week cos solicitors are slow, I'm sure some STW expert will be along in a minute to offer some advice then.

Or inordinately busy already.
If you want things done fast - i.e. in priority to others' existing work - be prepared to pay for the privilege.
It wasn't a problem it taking a week, it was the general attitude. You had to be there I guess.
we used an online service think probably suggested on moneysavingexpert as above or similar tenminutewill.co.uk if still exists think about £40 do it on line they check for legal problems and suggest alternatives and then you can print it off sign and get witnessed
- if time allows and again it costs check out government probate service you can lodge the will so there is more chance it is found when executor is sorting yr estate
these quick will things don't work if you want to do trusts and stuff like that
or places like staples/smiths do packs you can fill out but you don't have the benefit of getting someone (possibly the work experience employee - i know) check for obvious no no's
Or inordinately busy already.
working out how much to bill you for ringing them up to remind them to do something?
It's rumoured that some will do it for free on the basis they will get the work when you cark it.
Just write your thoughts down on what you want to happen should you not return alive, hand a sealed copy to your parents and a good freind, and dont forget to sign it and get somebody like a doctor or somebody profesional to sign it as well.and thats it,
Dont forget to include detils of bank accounts and savings, not the numbers but just the bank where they are held, and phone and contact numbers for freinds etc.
Best wishes with VSO.

Bound to incur lots of expense & hassle for your family at a sad time. I'm a lawyer btw!
It will not be the end of the world if you don't have a will. You are unmarried and have no kids, so if you die without a will all your property will go to your parents. Give them a letter asking them to pass your personal possessions to your friend to dole out among your other friends. Better off having a will, but no disaster if it can't be done in time as things stand.
very much with cynic-al (not a lawyer but too many elderly relatives - well actually not too many probably less than there should be)
though in favour of the diy approach there are minimum requirements for a will to be valid and certainly one of those is two witnesses to the signatory - plus some sort of structured approach with the correct legal terminology hence suggesting a will writing service or as a very minimum if very simple a diy pack from a stationers
but it may be a good to list things like life insurance policies other assets to save hassle and/or what sort of funeral arrangements would like
Slightly different situation, but relevant - my mum's just died without a will. Tiny estate (in the £100's after funeral expenses) but a nightmare to get to anything to sort it out (inluding an interview at the local probate office).
With a week to go, it will be tough for the OP, but to anyone else - please get it sorted, just for the sake of those who will have to resolve all the issues afterwards...
