Having fun - or not - with a Wordpress site. It wants to upgrade to 4.6, but if I try the one-button online upgrade it just hangs at copying files, even if I leave it for an hour. then the site doesn't work - various errors along the lines of:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function apply_filters() in /var/sites/k/ ... /wp-includes/load.php on line 317

So tried downloading the update and FTPing it all up manually, and that didn't work either. It's not the update itself, I tried the one-button thing on a different site and it upgraded in less than a minute - same server, same PHP version etc.

So what's next? Download the full Wordpress installation and reinstall it all?

Thanks 😉

Is it an off-the peg theme or a custom built jobby? It should take like, 30 seconds to update (I'm guessing you probably already know that though?!)

Try disabling your plug-ins and then updating

Or it could be temporary file issue, one of ours wouldn't update last week until I specified a new temp directory in wp-config

Off the peg theme, and I disabled the plugins before trying. Interesting thought about the temp directory, I'll try that - thanks 😉
