We will be in touch
40 hrs without a cigarette now . its becoming a bit of a struggle but I am determined.
First day done - now to complete the first week and the first month
MTFU 😉
Stick with it TJ! You know it's worth it.
Just think about all the damage you've ever done to innocent non smokers around you.
*sparks up a nice Upmann.........*
Stuff it, TJ, get to some real smoking. I can just see you with a cigar.
You do realise that large parts of impoverished developing economies depend on tobacco cultivation*, I hope. Your selfish actions are just helping to feed the rich/poor divide, you're worse than CFH 🙂
* Possibly true.
You are over the worst physically - just got to get out of the mindset that you are 'missing out' on something...
Stick with it, best thing by a mile I ever did - I was a 30 a dayer until a few years back.
And well done on the first 40 hours!
You know I'm truly shocked that you're a smoker TJ.
Good luck with quitting though.
🙂 @ mogrim!
Jeez! TJ was that it?!
I thought you where announcing you were off to meet G or something else equally scarey and life threatening!! 😆
Cheers chaps. CFH and Mogrim - made me chuckle
How long before I notice more puff when cycling? Been smoking for 25 of the last 30 yrs 🙁 ( I have stopped then started a few times) Definitely affected my air intake the last few years
With me it was within a couple of months - but I stopped smoking teh day I started commuting in so was riding most days. I looked at it like every day, and every ride I would be fitter.
Good luck all the same though TJ. I forgot a wink on my last post.
😉
i found all of the preachy happy stuff a real PITA when I quit.
when your craving get bad just imagine an evil little monster inside you that lives on nicotine. you feeling bad is him being starved. do it for long enough and he's gone from your body.
worked for me anyway, good luck
Good luck TJ, how many were you on a day out of interest?
Are you on the patches/gum?
Nicely done that man!!! 😀
Took me ages to feel better on the bike, but don't let that put you off.
Good for trying and best of luck, we look forward to the bad tempered posting on there in about another 3 days.
Good luck - how about putting the money you would be spending on fags towards some kind of treat?
Ski - 1/2 oz of rollie baccy a day - or a bit less. Nicotine replacement lozenges.
Stumpy - will do. Did that when I stopped before - bloody stupid to start again grrrrrrrrrr
is this the same TJ that preaches on hear about healthy balanced diets when all that time you've been puffing away to suppress your appetite? 😉 anyway good luck with it and no longer being one of the manky b@stards 😀
Good luck TJ!
I'm planning on quitting again as soon as possible... I need my lungs probably more than I have ever done before in my life, so smoking is going to have to go the way of the dinosaurs. Soon, honest.
If you keep thinking about it you will not make it ... I stopped for 8 years only to restart. Best time to stop is when you have a sore throat or flu (not swine flu).
Here is something to remind you.
Enjoy.
😈
PMSL @ "for any studly guy"
🙂
Started in 1969, quit in 2005, having tried on numerous occasions to quit previously. Stopped dead, no patches, nothing. Absolute breeze and I've never been tempted, not even the once and no withdrawal symptoms either.
How? It was the one and only time that I had truly decided that I didn't want to do it anymore. Not half hearted, not "I'll stop when I've finished these", not "I'll just put my lighter in the drawer because I might need it to light a fire or something". Just, " I don't want to do this anymore", all the paraphernalia went straight in the bin there and then, and as of that moment I was a non smoker. Still am and can't see that changing anytime soon.
So just remember why you're doing this and MTFU as the first caller said.
No need for luck or any of that old bobbins, if its the right thing for you and what you really want you will do it easily.
G
Good luck TJ. The longer you stick with it, the better it gets. I reckon you need to go through a yearly cycle to experience everything you did smoking as a non-smoker. It really is worth it. I've been stopped for 4+ years now and it's one of the best things I ever did.
Having never touched a cigarette in my 26 years, thanks to chewkw, I quite fancy one.
please smoke if you want - why punish yourself?
Do you want your headstone to read, "he stopped smoking and was a miserable git"
My gran smoked 20 day for 75 years and died aged 90 - so fags must be good for you.
Quit.
It makes sense, you know it does.
Your brain knows it doesn't need fags deep down.
Soon the cravings will be but a distant memory.
Stop being soft, don't try to give up. Just do it. Simple. BTW Good luck!
Good for you TJ, if you really want to stop you will. If you only think you should, its not so easy.
Go on TJ. Keep at it.
Good luck TJ.
I gave up 7 years ago.
And still miss it like mad...
Ta muchly chaps - especially for the light relief 🙂
I am absolutely determined. Its quite amazing how addiction makes you act tho - I already have the little voice going - "just one will be Ok" Weird what a grip it gets on you.
Good luck TJ. I have tried and failed to quit several times. Nothing clever about smoking, although it can be wonderous with a beer. The first week is the hardest, then you can actually choose to smoke or not without 'needing' to.
Lol at the advert with the strapline, "Blow in her face and she'll follow you anywhere".....!!
Well, that's ruined my resolution this morning... I woke with all those good intentions, went for a nice run, did a load of press-ups, then saw those and now want to go outside and have a smoke. Swines!
Still, it is nearly the weekend, so I might treat myself to a nice Marlboro Menthol. Mmmmm. Minty!
Good luck. My dad gave up recently after smoking for 40 years, just decided to go cold turkey. He was utterly miserable to start with, but fair play, he's stuck at it.
I think smoking is going to seem very quaint and anachronistic in a few years' time. A bit like taking snuff.
over 2 weeks here old fella, get it done!
Love some of those vintage adverts.
TJ, I have a clinical interest in smoking cessation. Give me a call on 07966 914462 if you want some advice (although I'd rather you not do so at 2am when you're desperate for a fag).
Still going.
Ernie - where did you get that pic of me?
Sponge - I have all the info - can you provide me with some MTFU tho?
good luck man!!!think of all the money that you could now put to your bike, instead of smokes!!!p.s the guy who posted all those ad's,evil man pure evil haha!!!but one of them looked like ronald raygun was advertising ciggies!!!
Stay strong TJ - hope you see it through
good luck, you're already past the worst. just got the years of irritabilty and bewildering weight gain to look forward to now 😉
I'm astonished to hear that you smoked at all TJ, whith all the medical advice and knowledge contained in your posts of the past.
Don't look back, it's for stinky selfish people!
I'm shocked too that you smoke. Especially considering the job you do.
Keep going.
As a non-smoker I can't imagine wht you're going through.
Bunnyhop - it ain't that bad. If fags weren't so easily available then it would be much easier. Its more the way your mind gets twisted than anythng physical
I guess it has changed nowadays but the majority of nurses used to smoke and still very many do.
TJ - stick at it and good luck!
good luck man!!!think of all the money that you could now put to your bike
You might now be able to afford a bike each 😀
good luck with it jeremy i still find myself reaching for where my fags were from time to time , it will take a few months to feel any benefit and do expect to be quite ill for a while as the body adjusts to fresh air and starts to dump all the the accumulated toxins
i have been fag free for 7 months now and it is still hard somedays
Stick with it TJ. I did it, and if I can, you can. Trust me I am not in possesion of masses of will-power - I was just ready to stop and honestly have never missed it since (it was 10 years ago). Not even ever been tempted to have a drag, although did have ONE puff of cigar in Cuba, felt the nicotine rush, so handed it right on back 😀
If you want to stop you'll stop but if you're just going through another pathetic attempt at stopping smoking (that so many smokers do) then you won't........
It's all down to you & all the encouragement in the world will make little difference if you don't really want to stop.....
Don't keep thinking about it and you will be fine.
I've been quit 18 months now, tried everything but in the end just shouted at myself 'you not having one and that's the end of it'
also did the treats thing
1 week orange prestige
1 month yeti 575
1 year intense slopestyle
and the missus hasn't said a thing because at the end of the day I'm not smoking 😉
Clarey - to be fair, that picture makes me want to smoke!
