Getting to the point where the constant reminders to upgrade are doing my nut in, do I just do it? I was waiting for a bit until any early issues had been ironed out.

If so, anything I need to do before I push the button?

Nah, crack on, it takes a little while to do but it's pretty good.

I installed it, quite liked it. However, I re-installed 7 because the company VPN wouldn't work, old games wouldn't run and chromecast audio didn't cast.

Be careful, and don't take MS word for it that everything will be OK.

I liked it on my new laptop but when I tried the update on my PC, it came back with no audio and I later found "no windows 10 drivers available" for my motherboard.

I did manage to revert (which is an option for about a month after "upgrade") but it's not been quite the same since, with silly settings changed so the reversion was not perfect.

PS.. even installing it and then reverting for good reason does not stop the harassment. Updates recently became automatic without my input and guess what was on the list?

I'm waiting for someone in the US to have a class action suit over MS attitude. As someone mentioned over at The Register, there are blind and disabled windows users with special software that doesn't work on win 10 who are getting updated against their will and potentially losing their access to the outside world.

Just go for it, lots of tin foil hat nonsense out there. M$ have done better than normal on this one.

Poster with VPN issues, we've just tested a final build for users. VPN wouldn't upgrade, it broke badly. Found out if we uninstalled our VPN client and removed the connection, upgraded and then re-installed VPN on Windows 10 it works fine.

I for one will be sticking with Sinclair Basic on my ZX Spectrum.

Won't be bullied into it, can't see why I'd need to change.

As the Pud above, tried it, and then backed out as too many things were wrong to make it worth my while.

If you are just using a pc for MS office and looking at STW yo may be OK.

When you put alsorts of other softwares packages into the mix it's a lot less straightforward

I kind of wish I hadn't.

It broke various drivers - the touch pad scroll turned upside down, middle click stopped working, the screen brightness couldn't be changed - but I managed to fix those. Until, that is, it basically reinstalled the lot a month or so back, so I had to do it all again.

It updates when it feels like it, which is invariably when you want to use it. It doesn't ask, it just decides to sit there chugging away for fifteen minutes when you turn it on wanting to use it. That's the most annoying thing; I think it's about once a month it does it. Why can't it do it overnight, or at least give you a bit of notice? I realise people wouldn't ever bother if there was an option not to, but what was so wrong with the old way of being able to put it off for up to four hours?

It's new and shiny, I do prefer the new start menu and the slide-in control panel thing, but I can't think of anything I couldn't do before and the updates are much more annoying.

Pretty much, aye. I can't say I've experienced any of the horror stories some people have reported, but then I did wait a couple of months rather than pull the trigger at 12:01 on release day and wonder why there were teething issues.

This is on a Vista vintage laptop that's survived a disk clone from a faulty drive, an in-situ upgrade to Windows 7 and another to W10. And then a clean W10 install as I migrated to an SSD and wanted to go to x64 at the same time.

I've been thinking about a complete re-install of my current W7 PC. Must be 6 years now since it was switched on and I've not done anything to it (other than the regular updates). If I upgrade to W10, will I get a new license and then be able to do a clean install of that instead?

Seriously - it is easy to use, stable and up to date. If you don't have a good reason* not to install it, then get it done.

I've been running it since the public beta and have yet to have any real issues.

Originally you had to do an in-situ upgrade for it to successfully acknowledge your eligibility for the upgrade. With the latest media refresh however, this is no longer the case and you can just feed it a W7 / W8.1 licence key.

W10 isn't licensed in the same way as previous versions, there's no "licence key" per sé. The upgrade registers your hardware, a 'fingerprint' if you like, with MS's activation servers.

Cougar, do you have any idea where N versions can be downloaded from? Pretty sure I did a live install over my copy of 8.1 but cant find an iso for my copy of 7 and the supposed links on the download page are missing.

I only ask as if anyone would know you will, google was quite unhelpful. Blooming annoying, was a big mistake going for N.
