can double glazed glass be retrofitted into wooden frames?

uPVC really doesnt fit with my house and the frames are in pretty good condition. It'd be nice if I can keep them.

any ideas/experience?

If you have deep rebates or they can be made deeper it should be fairly simple to replace the glass with double units

don't see why not, assuming the frame is deep enough to accommodate the unit on the openers. i imagine you'd fit the double glazed unit like you would putting in a single piece of glass.

sometimes yes

sometimes no

it depends on the existing rebate you have in the frames, 14mm is the minimum you'll need for a DG unit to fit + you'll need enough room to stick a bead on as well

you can get 12mm DB units too but they're top doller

Denpds a lot on the frame itself. You can insert DG into the frame as said above but then you have to rebate the frame further. My old amn found it easier to build new frames instead. If you're on a terrace house on the street don't do it as you'll be in trouble with fire regulations but also check your house insurance small print too if you're changing from a proprietary system with regards to security etc.
