Having known him on line for about 12 years on another forum and having met him, I wonder if he will reappear here after he flounced off.

You've met him!?
Did you need to wear sunglasses to shade your eyes from the glow of awesomeness?

A classic flounce 'cos once again surf matts idiotic, unskilled and dangerous driving was exposed.

Bit like this?

Personally I thought he was fine. Like STWs very own Stuart Baggs/Alan Partridge hybrid.

But until the bitter litte boys with a chip the size of a planet get off this forum, that isn't going to happen - it'll be sniping, constant attempts to trip me up, utterly pathetic little snipes.

Indeed. 🙂

Ah yes.

My first STW flounce. It wasn't particularly memorable, but it was good. Nothing like a know-it-all getting called out for his misguided knowledge.

I'll have a dig around another forum I used to frequent and see if "The Moose's" flounce thread is still there. She was spectacular, flouncing and reappearing on such a regular basis they named a subforum after her.

Hope not. Cock a doodle dooooo...... (as in strutting rooster rather than silly name calling). It normally takes about 3 post to go from sensible debate to horrible, personal insults usually with SM as the bestist/fastest/greatest bestowing his awesome knowledge on the 'feeble geeks' he deigns to share Internerd space with. If he is so awesome and everyone else so feeble, why?

Classic compensation for low self esteem... 🙂

He voiced an opinion and the usual [s]gobshites[/s] suspects roared in raising their voices until he flounced off.

Seems to be getting more common on here these days. Agree with the hive mind or you will be ridiculed into oblivion. Definitely getting less pleasant on here.

Some people are very, very convinced they are completely correct, and very prone to believing that anyone who doesn't agree with them is questioning their manhood. These people tend to congregate on driving threads. 🙂

I agree with surfmats approach. Then again i am not the sort of person to pull over and slow my journey down just to let idiots get to where they are going any quicker. If i am going the speed limit, i will keep to it.I will never stop to let someone past when they are already breaking the limit. who all on here stops in the nearest layby to let faster drivers past?

I took a diffrent approach a few weeks ago to a tail gater. I picked up my car, left the MOT station and was driving along under the 30mph speed limit when a white van tears up behind me with dodgy headlights. At first i thought it was one of the guys from the garage playing around but i noticed it wasnt when we had to stop at a roundabout. I carried on and the guy was about 10ft from my bumper, pulling slightly out to the right of our lane from time to time.I lost it.. indicated..slowed down and got out. screamed "get off my F****** bumper...OK?!"

he raised his hands in a "what am i supposed to do" jesture. i got in the car, continued the journey (still in the 30 zone) and he continued to do it. he soon pulled off down a side road.

So i leave a garage, take 2 turns through a town and then this happens. wtf? lol.

seems a decent guy. Ok, so successful in life, likes to talk about his 'stuff' when the opportunity arises, but still a sensible head. Compassionate about kids and problems some parents have with young 'uns. Also gave me some very useful technical advice.

never met him

But not everyone feels the need to shout from the rooftops about everything, then argue black is white and then resort to silly insults when people don't comply....

@Jamie, hmmm you could be right. I just don't like strutting, 'me, me, me' poseurs...

what BD said he had a certain ability to fail to see what a complete fool he came over on some threads -no idea re this thread as I avoid car threads. Bit insecure hence the need to show of his body beautiful and tell us all how succesful he was. Often rude then got upset when people were rude to him- self awareness was certainly not his strong suit

On a different car thread a week or so ago I made some comments and stated that I fully expected to have a petrol head shouting abuse at me shortly

Indeed that is exactly what surf matt did.

His issue is he can give it out but not accept it. He dishes out loads of abuse to folk who don't agree with him but goes apoplectic if anyone dare question him or his lifestyle at all.

Not deliberately, it's a small group of folk who have known each over in real life and online for years. New folk will get ribbed but if they have the right attitude they will be fine.

Yeah I used to post on here quite a bit.

It became a bit of a problem, logging on when I got up, taking regular STW breaks at work, still STWing last thing before bed. I, errr, decided to have a break... but going out on an evening isn't half as good as people tell you!

never! been posting on here and plenty other mtb forums for around 11 years or more.. Taken plenty of abuse on here over the years inc. some v. personal insults and even a few threats of physical violence! 😆 some people take themselves way too seriously, a discussion on a forum it isn't even worth worrying about, never mind flouncing off.

Nah, he doesn't want to post on car forums... Quite common this, self-proclaimed experts who carefully avoid forums and sites that are relevant to their chosen subject. That way, they can talk cobblers without as much risk of coming across anyone who can correct them.

I've been on bike forums for 10+ years too. Never been threatened with violence. Maybe you need to think about what you're posting...

Smurf Matt - nice enough guy I'm sure just has the online character of a 5 year old at the slightest provocation and an amusingly obvious inferiority complex.

Surf Mat: I don't agree with what he was saying about activating the brake lights, surely giving a false indication of your intention to other road users puts you, them & pedestrians at risk (no matter how close they are to your bumper) but was it worth the bestowing of tags etc... Upon his character? The driving argument could have continued without name calling.

I can see why his posts rub people up the wrong way, but it's obvious he has some issues with acceptance and self esteem. He seems to care a great deal about family and I respect him for that.

He hasn't deleted his account so doubt he's gone for good. Just levitated back to the planet awesome to recharge.

I've never known anyone get so much shit, it probably penetrates the thickest skin after a while. When he first bounced onto the forum I delighted in winding him up but after he saw the funny side of the awesome thing I figured it was time to ease off. I think that others have kept on at him, a bit of an easy target really and borderline bullying in my book but that's the interned for you.

Look chaps, speaking as a gay man please note that 'flounce' and 'mince' are quite related but do have some differences. I feel, as a matter of public information that people should know the difference.

A mince is small steps, elbows to body with hands at about 25 degrees out from the front and about 80 degrees up, fingers out as if holding a handkerchief, eyes up towards the right.

A flounce, on the other hand is similar, small steps but much more side-to-side arm action. Eyes straight ahead.

At least that is what I was told when I joined. Dunno if it has changed since. 😀

On the other hand, surf-matt hasn't really bothered me too much, so I don't really have that much of an opinion. As most people (apart from severely nasty works) I wish him well.

Maybe teaching granny to suck eggs but having worked at Harrods and spent many a bored hour chatting to my many gay colleagues, I believe that a flounce is as described but with big theatrical steps, not small ones. YMMV 😉

To be honest, a lot of rubbish is spouted on here - left foot braking is lethal, heel & toe will kill everyone in a 5 mile radius, you must wear a helmet to walk down the street / ride a bike etc.

To me there seems to be a bit of divide - people who ride bikes and include it as part of a vaguely greenish and leftish world view, and people who happen to like riding bikes. The two seem to spend a lot of time arguing...
