Approx 80 miles - so four days walking and 3 nights under the stars. May seems like as good a month as any. I can think of only 2 questions I need to be answered:
1.Which is the best end to start from?
2.Will I have a problem finding water?
What could possibly go wrong?

It tends to find you,

Can be very grim up there. Few towns along the way.
There's a few cafes and villages along the way with pubs, etc. It's not like there's loads of clear mountain streams you'd happily drink from.
Wild camping - well, like anywhere if you arrive late and leave early it'll be fine but most of it is farmland rather than open moorland so there may be farmers out and about although they should have finished lambing by then. I live about two miles from the wall, in the middle bit, and while out running I have come across people bivvying, literally up against the wall. Never sure who was more surprised.
There are a good few basic and cheap campsites on the way too. There's even the odd bothy within striking distance too.
I'm not sure how far off course it would be, especially when walking, but Kielder forest stretches relatively close to the wall, and they have a number of legal wild camping locations. Supposedly if you fire an email to them they'll send them back to you. Might be a bit of a detour on foot though.
Kielder forest is about a days walk from the wall so commendable suggestion but he might struggle ;0)
As Paul says, most of it you should be ok, just bed down late and up early (you don't have to move on, just be up incase you need to). Usual rules apply, don't leave anything other than flattened grass. Plenty of pubs on route so plan around those for evening meals and walk out to a camp spot after :0)
