when i'm in the house alone , with no chance of anyone else coming in (housemate in a different country, 1 set of keys, door locked) i still feel the need to shut and lock the toilet door when i go for a poo?

I don't even do that when there are other people in the house 
I have a large comfy commode for such occasions so that I can do it in the sitting room in front of the telly..
It has a tray attachment so that I can have me dinner at the same time
Do you lock the door when it's "you time"? Or is there still the frisson of a DW?

nah, no lock on my bedroom door CFH - almost got caught last week.
never lock the bathroom door - lack of handle prevents it - kids once locked themselves inside and there was an ensuing panic solved by a broken door.
