why can't they sort these issues out for Christ sake?!!
To sort the wheat from the chaff?
............ and guess what can't sync it to iTunes
Consider that a win
😀
i've just bought a spangly new iMac and i have to say is been totally great, easy to set everything up and really fast install times etc.
I must have good genes or something.
In my experience Apple is pretty much "as easy as it can be" for most tasks (provided you are happy to do things the Apple-way and only the Apple-way).
What exactly is happening?
You start iTunes, plug in your iPad and...?
The iPad icon doesn't appear in iTunes.the laptop has recognised it as the file transfer window has popped up but not iTunes.Just seems like there's constantly problems with it
It's not a problem with the iPad. It must be a problem with you. The iPad has no problems.
Yeah I sometimes get that (Windows-based iTunes I assume) - it sometimes misses the USB notification for some reason.
Just unplug it, wait for the de-doo, then plug it back in.
You don't have too many devices registered to iTunes do you?
I can't remember what the symptom is, but I've had this before. Maximum of 5 devices per instance of iTunes. This can get quite complicated if you've got multiple accounts on the computer, and each one is authorised for iTunes.
Yes mate, clearly a problem with me.I follow the instructions to the letter and it doesn't work..
My iPad 2 synchs fine with iTunes. Sometimes have trouble with my iPod Classic 120gb though, sometimes it randomly switches itself off whilst I'm listening to music, and sometimes it just won't talk to iTunes - it connects then immediately ejects itself. Apple - it just works. Sometimes! 😛
I've tried every USB connection on the laptop, restarted laptop and iPad and reinstalled iTunes.
The very helpful instructions tell me to just plug it in.great.
Im ringing apple mate, may well be that I have too many devices synced but why should I need to know/sort that as a consumer?
Ah Apple...I love some of the hardware, but the software is designed by sadists.
I sincerely hope that whoever it is who said in a product meeting "I know, let's make ITunes slow, unintuitive and incredibly annoying" is struck down with a nasty case of haemmorhoids very soon.
are you using a firewall? turning that off or reducing it's effect helps loads with itunes IME - my iphone wont sync with my firewall on, once I switch it off, fine!
Maybe you just have a dodgy one or something then, or your computer is crap (if it's a Windoze machine this is actually quite likely).
As for Apple 'making things difficult'; they don't. I've never had any problems in nearly 20 years of using Macs, and over tens years of owning them. And every Mac user/owner I know gets on fine with them.
Yes mate, clearly a problem with me.
Clearly...
Oh dear I think he's upset the Apple cart.
Send it back and get a notebook....

know what you mean, i got a new car at the weekend and it can't pull the trailer. Turns out it's too heavy, i mean WTF it came with a towbar!

That should be all you need to do. I'm not sure what other instructions they could have offered.
As I say, sometimes iTunes seems to miss the "new USB device" notification. I usually find unplugging the USB, waiting then plugging it back again sorts it out. Or sometimes even unlocking the device seems to do it.
I phoned and they have given me a massive list of things to do with the software to make it work.I can imagine someone like my dad tearing his hair out if he needed to do all that after spending £470 on something.love apple products but they are not user friendly I'm afraid
I just *knew* Elfin would be an apple fanboy.
"that should be all you need to do"
I can't make this any clearer.it isn't!! I dont believe for one minute that none of you have had problems installing new software on iTunes for iPhones etc

I agree after installing 4 iPods and 1 iPhone with no problems it must be the products. There's likely something on your machine causing the issue rather than the iPad. Even my Dad managed to get his iPad to work straight away with no hair loss. Oh wait sorry I disagree.

😯 my daughter can unlock my iPhone, find the Photo album and look through it. She is 16 months old.
They may not be perfect, but they are about as user-friendly as any computer I've used.
I can't make this any clearer.it isn't!!
But it should be and I think for 99% of people it is.
I dont believe for one minute that none of you have had problems installing new software on iTunes for iPhones etc
Nope. No issues here. iTunes is pretty crappy to be honest, but it does the job, happily syncs and backs up two iPhones in our house.
Only problem I've ever had was a firmware upgrade that bricked an old iPhone. Took it to Apple, they replaced it on the spot for free, then I plugged the new one into iTunes and it automatically restored it from backup. Perfect.

"The" software? Which software? iTunes or the OS?

Q.E.D.
How old is your laptop? - mine just couldn't cope with lots of things any more, and when I tried to sync my iPhone it got in a tizzy. New computer and no problems - syncs 2 iPhone, 2 iPods and my iPad no issues at all*
*This is a lie - sometimes it claims I haven't downloaded all the purchases even when I have - but it works after runing it one more time
I'm guessing the big list they gave you to do was:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows (Apple KnowledgeBase)
So further instructions in the event that it didn't work are available.
And you were able to speak to someone on the phone to try and sort it. If you still have issues you could take it into a store and a "Genius" will look at it for free.
Try getting that from another company (i.e. Nokia, Sony?)
I just *knew* Elfin would be an apple fanboy.
Not at all. In fact, I'm going off them because of their insistence on pushing lifestyle products at vastly overinflated prices, instead of just offering a decent, propperly working alternative to the hell that is Windoze.
And I've also owned PCs. My current PC is standing idle as there's something wrong with it that even my computer boffin mate can't fix. Won't even allow us to install the OS again from fresh. It'll probbly go in the bin soon tbh.
For me, what is not a geek, Mac is a vastly superior OS, and I seldom have any problems with it. Setting up iTunes is a doddle; dunno why people think it's so difficult. With my PC, every other time I turned it on something would go horribly wrong. Drop the internet connection, fail to recognise USB peripherals, lose half my music and video files then later they'd mysteriously reappear, always some sort of error message, needs to run anti-virus etc etc etc. Piece of crap.
You're holding it wrong.
I have a macbook pro and iphone4, by far the best gadgets on the market at the mo, so easy to use.
Have you tried switching it off and on again?
Have you tried a different cable? I've got a few cables and a couple will charge fine but are no good for syncing.
I have just ordered a MacBook Air with some trepidation. My only previous experience of Apple products has been that they are the only bits of software and hardware that may work on my Vista64 box, as opposed to just working, like everything else....
Yes iTunes and iPod nano, I'm talking about you!
