I've always considered myself to be reasonably intelligent although I'm happy to admit that I'm not particularly active in the political sense. Now, recently I've started thinking that I ought to take my civic responsibility more seriously and pay attention to these election. I should even take a bit of time and effort to vote sensibly.
I've got my postal voting stuff through. Now, the FPTP vs AF, I've got that sorted.
I now have two slips. One with ten names on and I can pick up to nine and another with nine names on and I can pick up to three. Some of the names are common to the two sheets and some are not. I have no idea what difference ticking one name and not another would make and I've no idea why I've got two bits of paper to play with.
If I can't work out what's going on, I'd imagine a large percentage of the local population will not be making a very informed choice and will probably vote purely by the little logo on the right and stop marking boxes when they run out of fingers.
I've spent over half an hour googling these people and I'm not really getting anything that would help me make a decisions and other that getting people to stuff propaganda about how awful the "others" are, through the letter box they're doing nothing to generate support.
Am I far less intelligent than I thought I was or is this just a great big con so people can keep power without being bother by the public?
It's about time someone put a stop to this sort of nonsense and the government appointed a committee to decide what the election results should be.
The only advise I can give is vote early and vote often. HTH.
At the moment, it looks like the only thing going back in that envelope is the one about the voting system.
19?
Our local council one only had 6 candidates 2 each for the main parties and 2 for the Judas'
blue or red? it won't really matter cos they all work for the same side (big business and finance) so just go for yer favorite colour, Lol ๐
I think I'm getting somewhere now.
The first form is for the borough council. Pick three out of nine.
The second form is about voting for Smarties when you want Parma Voilets just so you don't get dog poo.
And finally, the last one is for the parish council pick 9 from 10.
Still don't know who does what or why I should vote for them though.
or why I should vote for them
Go for the ones with the best designer labels - it generally works for most things.
One of them does run a local bike shop. But it's the dingy miserable old bloke selling dusty stuff from the 1950s sort of bike shop.
Still don't know who does what or why I should vote for them though.
Here's where their responsibilities lie:

Your borough council's responsibilities depend exactly on where you are in England - but are essentially anything thats not governed by the Parish Council or Westminster Government (unless you are in London - with another layer of government - in the form of the Mayor?).
