Usually seems to start with not having any babies, or sometimes when kids have grown up and left, so they get a cat as a substitute.
Then they start posting pictures and videos of cats on forums and facebook. Then they realise they aren't getting real love from the cat, its just pretending for food, so they get another, and another and another, desperately in search of something that just isn't there.
And before you know it they are knee deep in furballs and faeces, standing outside the front door screaming at passers by.
Sounds quite a lot like having kids as it goes (we got our cats before having kids. consider it parenting training 😉 )
Imagine if cats were bald and green and had skin like frogs..
Yeah.. now you can see the cat for what it really is..
nasty unpleasant spirits owned by Satan's minions
Why are all dog owners low IQ Chavs with nothing more than an offensive weapon on the end of a barely controlled lead?
^^ *Upset cat owner ....

I don't think it's cat owners, just certain people. You only need to look through a few threads on here to see that some people will take any excuse to post pictures of their dog/bike/child. Pets do seem to be the worst though, and dogs and cats are the most common of those.

You can always sell them on and buy a dog Piedi...

Mrs Morini is planning on becoming a mad cat woman and wearing lots of purple when she retires.
We all need a plan in life I suppose.
Mike
Yes you're right. Far better to spend your life following round a mobile shit-making machine, picking its poo up and putting it in bags. Living the dream eh? 😉
Gotto laugh at the cat owners, trying to deflect attention onto another group in a failed attempt to make a pretence of sanity, like a rapist claiming that at least they're not a paedophile.
I think cat owners are just more realistic. I know that the mercenary bag of fur that shares my house is only here as it hasn't yet had a better offer. I quite admire the honesty and simplicity of that relationship
Dogs have masters, cats have staff
its is a fact of life cat owners are mostly mental
and one of the biggest downsides to the internet imho, are the millions of unfunny pictures of cats in stupid poses/costumes/phrases etc (see posts above)
What if youv'e got a cat & a dog like us, does that balance it back out again or are me & the Mrs still mad?
MSP & Kimbers - harsh but true.
I don't own a dog btw, just enjoy winding up cat owners because they're so defensive.

This is exactly the relationship we have with our cat. I'm not sure there is such a thing as a "cat owner". No getting away from it though - there are some crazies, young and old (but mostly female and smelling of wee with facial hair), who elect to have a cat with whom they have a (one sided)humanised relationship. Not all of us though me'lud!
I feel like I have achieved something today
Even though he will no doubt deny it and say it was from somewhere else, TJ just used something I posted (without disagreeing with it !)

What I think is certifiable is something I overheard a dog owner say to their animal in the park and I know that cat owners think this too. Said errant dog was called back by its owners and she said "Don't you know who your parents are?" WTF? Do people really think they are viewed as parents by these animals? Dogs view people as dogs don't they? either above them or below them in the grand scale of things, always working to be the "Alpha" And cats? Well we all know they are there just to eat your food and shred your sofa.

Sounds like Stockholm syndrome...
Dogs smell.
Cats are thick.
So they're not a substitute for humans as most people are both smelly and thick.
I have a rock with a face painted on it for a pet.

You have seen the number of dribbling dog photo posts on here haven't you?
I suppose it's just there to counteract the bat$hit mental dog owners who can't see they're a loud, often aggressive, antisocial nuisance because they're blinded by amazingly having something who loves them, as if they didn't get enough affection from their partner or parents...
😉

You've all got something missing/not quite right in your life 🙂
I like the Dr's rock idea I think some of you should give it a go
This is a serious subject - A lot of cat owners will have contracted toxoplasmosis from their animals whether they know it or not, and it's perfectly possible that this is responsible for causing Obsessessive Compulsive Disorder and schizophrenia among the owners.
The subjects who tested positive for the parasite had significantly delayed reaction times. Flegr was especially surprised to learn, though, that the protozoan appeared to cause many sex-specific changes in personality. Compared with uninfected men, males who had the parasite were more introverted, suspicious, oblivious to other people’s opinions of them, and inclined to disregard rules. Infected women, on the other hand, presented in exactly the opposite way: they were more outgoing, trusting, image-conscious, and rule-abiding than uninfected women. The findings were so bizarre that Flegr initially assumed his data must be flawed. So he tested other groups—civilian and military populations. Again, the same results. Then, in search of more corroborating evidence, he brought subjects in for further observation and a battery of tests, in which they were rated by someone ignorant of their infection status. To assess whether participants valued the opinions of others, the rater judged how well dressed they appeared to be. As a measure of gregariousness, participants were asked about the number of friends they’d interacted with over the past two weeks. To test whether they were prone to being suspicious, they were asked, among other things, to drink an unidentified liquid.
The results meshed well with the questionnaire findings. Compared with uninfected people of the same sex, infected men were more likely to wear rumpled old clothes; infected women tended to be more meticulously attired, many showing up for the study in expensive, designer-brand clothing. Infected men tended to have fewer friends, while infected women tended to have more. And when it came to downing the mystery fluid, reports Flegr, “the infected males were much more hesitant than uninfected men. They wanted to know why they had to do it. Would it harm them?” In contrast, the infected women were the most trusting of all subjects. “They just did what they were told,” he says.
Another reason to stop cats defacting in your garden
Gotta love STW (and all other fora) take the complex and multi layered intricascies of life and simplify it to my opinion and the wrong opinion. And the use of smilies make everything a big joke, so i can be a vitriolic ****t 🙂 and everyone knows it's just all in good fun.
It can only be done on STW! 😉
I never see these sort of threads on other forums.....that's why I love STW!

You've all got something missing/not quite right in your life
Im neither, I own a bag full of weasels. Well, ferrets at least. But in the spirit of open-ness I much prefer cats and have owned them in the past.
I have a dog, but I am definitely certifiably crazy. I've never said to my dog "Don't you know who your parents are?" - because I expect she DOES know that, but I do often say to her "I'M THE PACK LEADER ROUND HERE!!! - don't you realise that?" - to which she always replies with...
nah, she doesn't really speak ('cos she's a dog - see?)
She puts her head on one side, regards me sadly for a moment, then offers me a paw (in sympathy, I think, for my obvious madness).
😆
Our cat came with our house when the previous owners moved into a flat. I strongly believe that all cats are evil and long before the Cravendale advert have thought that the ony reason they haven't taken over the worlds is because they don't have opposable thumbs.
Found ours this morning in the boiler cupboard after i noticed that last nights bowl of food hadn't been touched. God knows how long she'd been in there but she just gave me a disgruntled look when i opened the door. She ate her food, farted and then went outside to crap in the neighbours vegetable patch, despite the fresh litter in her tray.
Cats are ace. Trolls are tedious.
Some cat owners are mad, because a proportion of people are mad irrespective of their choice of pet.
Next?
My cat is a territorial arsehole. It's recently decided to start defending our property from other cats by sitting in the window and shreeching like a banshee whenever another cat walks into the garden. Unfortunately this all goes off about 3am every other night. I agree with the OP, there must be something wrong with me for putting up with it...
? That's one fugly cat.
All species with vertebrae are ace, cats and dogs included. And quite a few without vertebrae are also well ace. Homo sp.is probably the least lovable though, committed as it is to homicide, ecocide, omnicide, and mundicide, and its nasty traits of hate, cruelty, selfishness, arrogance, and obscene greed.
