While were on whisky bargains, bit of insider info for you and this is legit

Glen Marnoch 12 year old (£12.99 in Aldi) is actually a 12 yr old Dalmore (£35 - £40 per bottle).

Aldi bought the whole vat cheap as it wasn't selling as Dalmore.

ITS ONLY THE 12YR!

So how do you know this?

A recent one I saw was two bottles of Glenmorangie for £30 at Asda. I thought about it, then asked my brother if he wanted to go halves with me but by the time I had pontificated they had sold out.

Last week Tesco had 1 litre of Bells for £12.99, i bought 6.

Yes i would normally have single malt but this was dead cheap for everyday use..

Although I'm happy to believe most things strangers tell me on the internetz, do you mind if I ask how you know? I promise I'm not a Dalmore / Aldi employee... If it is true, I'm in like Flynn.

Well, at £12.99, i'm prepared to to test it.
If it's any good then it doesn't really matter where it's from - good whisky is good whisky.

I am now the owner or 1 bottle of Glen Marnoch which I grabbed on the way home. It cost me £16.99 instead of the expected £12.99 which was a bit of a disappointment. I am now going to start the delicate sampling process and will feedback my results in a series of increasingly frazzled posts throughout the evening. 😉

'tis okay but tbh I prefer the bottle of 'morangie I have in the cupboard. Certainly not blown away but that could be either than I got a bog standard bottle of Aldi Scotch or I just am not discerning enough.

I'm sure I still have some 12year old Dalmore somewhere, might buy some Aldi stuff and do a comparison.

But you here these rumours all the time the otherone is Smokehead which is apparently single malt from an unidentified Islay distillery

There are so many bargains out there - I bought a bottle of Jura Superstition today for about £21 from Asda, and a bottle of Talisker for about the same from Tesco last week. I'm stocking up you see...

if you can find it and don't mind trying something a bit different then see if you can get hold of Rittenhouse 100% proof straight Rye. It should be under £20 a bottle and is lovely - apparently got fantastic reviews too and hence is a bit of a pig to get hold of but well worth the effort. It seems to be stocked in random places - I found my bottle in a random wine-merchant in Fareham I think.

Oh - and try Master Of Malt website if you want to waste an evening being tempted by a huge variety of whiskey, rye, bourbon etc. I think they used to have a shop but have moved online and I couldn't recommend them highly enough - they do samples too in little wax sealed bottles - I've bought some as stocking fillers. Be warned it can be very tempting though...

(EDIT: realized that ^^ sounds like an advert but no affiliation etc, just a satisfied customer.)

Hi all, sorry comp died.

Right how do I know this, I work for a packaging company that supplies to Whyte & Mackay distillers who produce said Dalmore. The rep popped in to see them week a so back and was informed by W&M themselves about the little jem of info.

Got my dad a bottle and had no complaints from him (not much of a whisky drinker myself) he's sampled a fair few malts in his time! even went on a whisky holiday (a week of visiting various distilleries)

cheers

After a few more glasses last night I can conclude that the Glen Marnoch is a very satisfying tipple, very smooth and flavoursome. Certainly a bargain for £17.

Just bought a bottle of the 12 year old, very nice and very rich in flavour (and colour).
There is also an 18 year old one, anyone tried that?

I can barely resist Jura at the normal price. I'll have to see if Scotmid have the same offer on.

Got a 12 yr old Highland Single Malt reduced from £18 to £13.50 today at Asda. Passed the taste test. Nice mellow Speyside style malt. A bargain whatever distillery it came from.

tesco do a 12 yo islay malt, and it's suspiciously like the bottle of bunnahabain I have... although I can imagine that different batches have the same label stuck on them...

The Lidl single malt us also worth a mention. Its the remaining stock of a defunct Speyside distillery. Usually about £14 a bottle.

I really like the aldi dalmore single malt

Since then I've tried jura origin which is a lot lighter but still a nice flavour

I've just got a bottle of jura superstition which I'm not sure about. It's peaty like the dalmore but somehow the flavour seems like it was added afterwards if that makes sense. Like a flavouring.

I'm new to this so I'm looking for more recommendations. So far I think I like peaty, warm and spicy flavours but don't know much about whisky at all so any advice on other flavours and distilleries is appreciated.
