I'm planning on getting myself a tent to use for possibly a couple of weekends away but mainly to use for 12 and 24h races over the next few years.
In the past I've just used a gazebo but the wind at the 24h of Exposure finally killed it off 😯
I noticed at the race that others there were using 5 or 6 man tents and they seemed to cope with the wind pretty well and in the front porch area gave somewhere out of the weather for bike fettling and feeding.
I'm not wanting to spend a fortune on the tent and have narrowed it down to either a Vango Woburn 500 or a Kampa Oxwich 5.

Are there any others I should consider for the price?
Is it worth the extra to buy the footprint and carpet for it?
Not sure if this is any help, but over on Avforums there's someone selling a Vango Idaho 500 for £55.
Check out the Hi Gear Gobi 4 from Go Outdoors
I just bought one the other week for the exact same reasons you describe. It's back up to £150 now (was £125 when I got it), but it's still a bargain at that price. It's a proper dome tent rather than a tunnel tent, and though its Go Outdoors' own brand the quality seems very good.
Christened mine at Mountain Mayhem, was very impressed by it. It is a BIG tent though and you're likely to need help putting it up and packing it away.
As above, go outdoors. Got some brilliant reductions at the moment!
I'm not sure about the Gobi, I think I'd prefer a tunnel tent rather than a dome, just looks a bit more spacious to me.
The Hi Gear Rock 5 looks pretty good for the price, doesn't look bad for £120. The footprint seems worthwhile but is it worth getting a carpet as well?

The Kampa is the most waterproof of those mentioned with a hydrostatic head of 4000mm .The hi gear one is cheap for a reason ,its showerproof!

Oh, I never actually thought about that, I just imagined that all tents would be waterproof 😳

Not really I assume you want it for protection form the elements when it is muddy so a carpet would just get trashed I assume

They are hydrostatic head is basically what height of water they will withold with the higher number being "more waterproof"

here with the most important point being
he MOD consider 800mm as waterproof.
An hydrostatic head of 2000mm plus is going to take care of most European rain conditions in all seasons. Of course, the type of material fabric and pole structure of the tent are then going to be a further consideration.
My high gear has never leaked and it has seen a few British Summers 😉
