I always used the default google photo app but they changed it a while back after an update and it became much simpler, no tilt shift, sharpen and lots of other stuff. Does anyone use an app they'd recommend?

+1 for Snapseed.
+3 for Snapseed. Lightroom seems to deliver nicer results but the UI is a nightmare imo so it's moot.
Photoshop express is pretty powerful these days. Though it does run a bit slow on older hardware.
