[Closed] Which alternative to Skype/Facetime for online video chat?

The missus has a works laptop that she can't install anything on (therefore no Skype etc) and wants to remain in contact with SM jnr when away. Loads of apps available but wondering which is stable, preferably free and isn't going to mess around with browser settings etc.

google+ hangouts require a plugin download into the browser.

If she has trouble with that can she not use a portable app version of Chrome with the plugin installed?

We use google + hangouts for work all the time. Brilliant functionality. I can even do it from my android phone using the forward facing camera.

Skype on a USB stick with no need for installing:

Or get one of her remote work colleagues to request a skype video conference with her, voila, valid work reason to install skype on the laptop.

It does indeed, as my badly misinformed colleague insists on using a mac. I'm not sure about on an iPhone though.
