[*]I use a fairfx card. There are comparison sites that will give you everybody's rates. If you use post office etc, don't forget your top cash back 🙂

How much are you changing? Unless it's a lot, just use the ATM when you get there.

We use Caxton FX currency card, decent exchange rate and saves carrying wads of cash, just withdraw what you want at an ATM.

Don't use the airports
All the others work on more or less the same rate.
I take it, it is just money for your holiday

If not regarding myself I have a spanish bank account and keep an I on the markets and transfer
at different times when the rate is looking up.

I never see the point, I thought people stopped doing this in the 90's?

Just take your debit card (a credit card is handy too, for booking flights, cars and hotels etc). The charges generally don't amount to more than the hassle factor of "changing" money.

Check your bank doesn't have crazy transaction fees, and if they do, consider banking with someone else.

Try to avoid taking 20 euro out of the ATM at a time though 😉

M&S are still good as far as I know but as others have said, it's easier just to take cash out at an ATM but you want to check with your bank first for the country you are going to. Our bank changed it's rules Jan this year to block some countries if they weren't warned in advance.

and take out big lumps at a time rather than 20s

Good point re M&S. For more esoteric currency needs, I use their King's Road branch. (For example, they keep roubles and renminbi at all times)

Mainly because I don't really trust ATMs in China and Russia that much......!

Local supermarket, for the amount you're likely to take (less than a couple of thousand I should imagine) it's not worth wasting any time chasing down the best rate.
