Looking for a new house in Wales having sold our house in Sheffield.  Looking for quiet, sense of community, a decent.local pub, good riding and not too far from the sea.   Does Corris/Machynlleth tick these boxes?

Very much so. Both are amazing places to live tbh. I spent my early twenties living and working in the area and frequently return. Every time I go back I keep on asking myself why not return.  I still can't think of a good reason not to do so.

Also consider Abergynolwyn if you want somewhere just a bit quieter.

We go on holiday to Machynlleth most years. It seems very much like a community that is on the up to me. Each year it's just a bit nicer than previously.

Hello,

I've lived in Corris for 15 years, about a decade spent embedded in the mountain bike scene with my former business Bike Corris and other initiatives.

It's a good place to live, provided:

You like riding Black+ grade trails.

You like riding these trails in the wet.

You like (or can cope with) small village life.

You are resilient - power, phone, internet and even water outages are common.

You don't mind a half-hour round trip for a pint of milk.

You are prepared to accept the house you buy will leak and need modernising, including a roof. Unless you are prepared to spend for a house that has been done up.

You have no complex medical conditions - it's 1, 2 or 4 hours to a hospital.

You don't have ideas of living off grid and growing your own food - there's a reason people only farm sheep and timber here.

You are prepared to run a car that needs minimal attention - "popping" it to the garage using public transport isn't easy.

You have three Goretex jackets - one wearing, one dripping, one on the radiation. a

You have gills.

You can cope with never seeing the sun ride or set - No golden hour was hard work for me.

If you pass the above, then you will enjoy a friendly village with great local pub, excellent cafe/shops and wonderful primary school. It's a great place for young kids to grow up.

If you want to know more, drop me an email on davidvevans@me.com

Or buy my house!
