...you got caught stealing from your employer? say 60k over two years?

would the companies insurance company pay for the money stolen, if the company pressed charges? if the company pressed charges would you go to prison?

(it's not me by the way)

depends on what insurance they have

it's theft, not sure the company have a 'choice' on whether to press charges once the police are informed.

depends on what the CPS decide to do with regard to charges, what the circumstances of the thief were and what the judge/jury (if they said not guilty) thought. My view based on no knowledge of law or sentencing guidelines is that £60k = banged up for a year.

Prison almost guaranteed as they have done it on numerous occasions over a 2 year period plus the large amounts involved.
Insurance company probably wouldn't pay out as it took 2 years to detect which shows their internal audit systems aren't working.

Employers have a duty to report embezzlement to the authorities Usually but its not always the case I worked somewhere were a manager had a massive drug problem and owed some pretty nasty people money so he stole as he was scared, they let him off made him pay it all back on the basis he went and got help but I reckon thats pretty rare and in HR Law you have no duty of care to someone's "problem" if they steal from you.

From what I can remember from the corporate law section when I did it at college Big companies have special insurance for it but I wouldn't have thought it was standard in a smaller ones? Insurance companies would expect you to report it as a crime they're not just going to pay out.

Even expences fiddling is fraud and a criminal offence..... unless you're a politicain it would appear.... 😀

thanks, it's a company I used to work for, stayed good friends with the owner and one of the lads, turns out the manager has been stealing for 2 years as above. he's been friends with the owner since school. their families are friends. His wifes kicked him out, it looks like my mate is going to inform the police, his life is pretty much screwed....
