Neighbours have painted there fence this week and I have just noticed that they have oversprayed onto my car which is now covered in lots of little grey dots. Neighbours aren’t in so I haven’t gone round yet but how can I get it off?

Hoping that it is something relatively easy to get off. It is also on our back door and window which i tried getting off with windolene but that didn’t work.

Can't you just jet wash it away?

Purloin their paint pot from the shed and fill in the gaps. Job's a goodun.

Paint on car - insurance

anything you use yourself will either be a pita or potentially damage the paint/coatings of your cars paint. Note that the insurance company may pursue the party who caused the damage...

Ask them to contact their house insurance and deal with it that way, it takes the pressure off them, and lets you get it fixed professionally.

If it's water based, WD40 and a car polish.  I carried home some new fence panels on the roof rack. Unfortunately it rained, and as the panels had only recently been dipped, some of it ran onto my roof. Didn't notice until the car was dry.  WD40 and car polish.

PS I'd get them to clean it.

You'd have thought they would have checked there wasn't a car next to it.

Most fence paint is water based so I'd try hot soapy water first.

If this doesn't work get the neighbours to sort it.

If you don’t want to raise/escalate the issue with the neighbours, a bottle of tar and glue remover and a clay bar.

Then good wash, polish and sealant

Old boy littetally sprayed the full side of a friends car with some sort of fence paint and that’s how we removed it

Just checked and it isn’t just the car. Footpath, patio, one of the upvc windows, wheelie bin and garden furniture...bugger.

Clay bar and then polish should clear it off.

You don’t do anything, tell the ****ers who sprayed the fence to get it sorted

WTF were they doing in order to cover all that, filling a jet washer with paint. I’d be photographing everything and then talking to the neighbours. If they agree they’ve done wrong and put things right, fair enough. If not I’d be escalating through insurance.

Wash the car quickly but don't scrub to hard, it's probably going to need the attention of a professional detailer but hopefully not a bodyshop. Given the amount that's been damaged I think it is going to be a case of let their insurance take care of it.

chances are unless your car was not just washed then the paint will be over a layer of dirt and come off relatively easily.

This could have been avoided by careful spraying and telling you what they were doing. I told my neighbours when I sprayed mine, 2 covered their newish cars, one with an older car did not. No spray on anyone’s car or sheets.

They could not be bothered to tell you what they were going to do, so go through insurance.

Had a mobile valeter come out and have a look this morning. He got it off fairly easily using clay and some autoglym product (not sure which). He said you would have to do the whole car though and would need a machine polish to buff it up again afterwards as it would dull the finish. Cost would be £160. Reckoned it would be at least half a day.

Finally fot got to speak to next door after trying multiple times over the weekend. Showed them the car and the other areas that got overspray on them. We can live with most of the other stuff - you aren’t going to get it off the patio anyway, we were prob going to paint the furniture ourselves and I can prob clean up the upvc but the car needs to be sorted. I thought £160 seemed a bit steep at first but if I was to do it myself it would prob take me a day and cost £40 or so in materials (and that wouldn’t be a machine polish). She seemed a bit shocked at the price but said she would get a couple of quotes herself and get back to us which is fair enough. Don’t think k there was was a lot she could say to be fair. Just hope they sort it amicably as don’t want to fall out with them.

One of her quotes will be from Kevin’s, who her partner works with, brother who does a bit of bodywork because he used to work for Vauxhall. Her second quote will be even cheaper. Don’t mess around, they will expect the hard work bodywork guy to do the job for pennies because they expect everything to be done for a pittance.

On the other hand they may well be very sorry, entirely reasonable and happy to get it sorted for you.

Yeh will see what happens but need to give them an opportunity and not go straight into complete arse mode straight away!

£160 is not bad tbh and cheaper than a £1000's for a respray or their home insurance excess. Only agree to have someone you are happy with do it. It needs to be someone who knows what they are doing.

Definately, if you did they would most likely go for option 1 even if they were thinking option 2. I know I would!

Not messing around does not equal being an arse.

£160 to clean, clay bar, machine polish and (I assume) wax a whole car is cheap. They sprayed fence paint all over your stuff - they should be snapping your hand off!

We had our cars sprayed with some sort of paint (someone walked along the road, spraying multiple cars).

Autoglym super resin polish took it off fairly easily, so fence paint shouldn't present a problem.

My recommendation is not to try ANYTHING at all and wait until you can speak to the neighbours. If you try something and make it worse then they could claim that your actions made a fixable problem unfixable.

EDIT: I guess I should have read the full thread first LOL.

I hope your neighbour sees sense and accepts the £160 cost - they've got off pretty lightly in the circumstances.

If they get quotes, make sure they're from reputable people with the required insurance to cover the job. You can potentially do a lot more damage machine polishing a car than a few paint spots.

That's what I am hoping as well. They also ruined my wifes crop of cherry tomoatos which have paint splatters on and therefore aren't safe to eat!

Had a further google for some comparative quotes and £160 does seem cheap in comparison to the others but the guy seems good, was happy to come out on a Sunday morning to quote, and has a load of good reviews on facebook etc.

Will update once I have heard back from the neighbours

Put the cherry tomatoes in a tub and take them round to your neighbours and offer them the tomatoes. tell them how you've watered them religiously every day, watched them grow and looked forwards to eating them. However, they are now covered in their green paint spray, so here you go!. Should make a point about how you feel about their thoughtless actions.

Well a week went by with no news so tried knocking on next door a few times. No luck so put a note through their door with my phone number asking them to give me a ring when they got a chance. I thought they were avoiding me so wasn’t expecting much. Yesterday got a text of the valeter saying the work has been authorised and when can he come round to start the work! So they did the decent thing. Not sure if they are talking to me though or if they are just super busy!

They’re probably just a bit embarrassed.

Be nice, it wasn’t malicious and they’ve agreed to pay for it.

Buy the Mrs some flowers.

Sounds like embarrassment to me - good on them for sorting out the mistake.

Well car is all sorted and looks better than when I brought it. Found a product called astonish from the pound shop (recommended by my dad) and it got all the paint of the upvc windows so just in case anyone else has problems with spray paint on upvc windows.
