Current laptop met with a accident this weekend so hopefully will be replaced under policy.

It was a Toshiba Satelite P500 12f

So looking at that budget what's good for general household duties picture / music storage etc.
No looking for a Mac.

A lot will depend on the screen size you want, whether or not gaming is a requirement and if you want a touchscreen. If none of those are required/important factors then anything over about £400 should do but if I had to spend a grand I'd probably get a Dell XPS 13 or 14.

We buy lots in work and I have noticed that they have reduced significantly in price. I use mine all day every day and I recently bought a HP Probook and for everyday tasks it is superb.
