There were some great deals at Dell a few months ago. I got a pretty good spec for about £400 (you can upgrade memory, processor etc to match your budget)

Just got a HP 550 for £399, reasonable spec, good value for money. Vista is horrible, so if you can bear purchasing from PC World, they offer a free Windows 7.0 upgrade (subject to P&P). Only problem with a laptop a that price is something has to give and its usually the graphics card. But if all you're doing is surfing and emailing then its perfect.

Sue just got one of them on offer at PC World very good spec on it £375.

Just don't bother with extra cover, one big con. I did not get the anti virus stuff either as I prefer Eset Nod 32 one of the best out there.
